What you will do
Johnson Controls is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Fire Suppression Electronics team at our R&D Facility located in Cranston, RI. Our engineering teams are responsible for the design, development, and certification of fire protection products which aid in life safety and property loss mitigation. Working with a team of passionate engineers, program managers, product line managers and other professionals, together, you will create world class life-safety products that utilize digital, analog, and wireless technologies and be able to develop your career through progressive technical challenges and leadership opportunities.
As a Senior R&D Electrical Engineer, you will develop automated fire detection and control systems for heavy-duty off-road mining vehicles and commercial kitchens. You will also maintain a high degree of project ownership throughout the entire development cycle including road-mapping, requirements definition, concept development, electronic hardware and firmware development, verification and regulatory testing, training development and launch.
Working with a team of passionate engineers, program managers, product line managers and other professionals, together, you will create world class safety products that utilize digital, analog, and wireless technologies and be able to develop your career through progressive technical challenges and leadership opportunities.
This position is onsite at our facility located in Cranston, RI. Candidates must be commuting distance to the office, or able to relocate. Various relocation packages are available. Only US Citizens and/or Permanent Residents of the United States will be considered for this position, as sponsorship is not available.
How you will do it
  • Develop fire detection and control systems for vehicles such as haul trucks, excavators, wheel loaders, and bulldozers with wireless connectivity to mine management control centers.
  • Develop fire detection and control systems for high-end restaurants, casinos, arenas, and food courts with cloud connectivity, remote access, and e-notifications.
  • Develop control systems for firefighter air-replenishment systems.
  • Design PCB Assemblies and the embedded firmware for those assemblies for these (and other) applications.
  • Collaborate globally with mechanical engineers, firmware developers, product management, and manufacturing operations throughout the development cycle.
  • Work with external suppliers, approval agencies, and design partners.

What we look for
Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent four-year technical degree
  • 5+ years of PCB/electronic hardware design and development experience
  • System level design and/or analysis experience
  • Design verification and regulatory testing
  • US Citizens and/or Permanent Residents of the United States

Preferred
  • Product development experience related to control systems for commercial, industrial, or vehicle applications
  • System level design and/or analysis experience
  • Embedded firmware design & coding experience in C/C++
  • Knowledge of Python
  • Altium Designer experience

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $90,000 - $125,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
