Clarapath is a medical robotics company based in Westchester County, NY, dedicated to transforming and modernizing laboratory workflows. Our mission is to improve patient care by increasing efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing the quality and consistency of laboratory processes.
Our portfolio includes SectionStar and TrimStar Pro, innovative electro-mechanical systems designed to automate and elevate critical steps in the histology workflow. SectionStar delivers high-quality, consistent tissue sections, while TrimStar Pro streamlines and standardizes the trimming process - together enabling laboratories to operate with greater precision, throughput, and reliability.
At Clarapath, we bring together experts across engineering, data science, robotics, healthcare innovation, and laboratory operations. Our R&D team drives innovation, product enhancements, and a strong pipeline of new solutions, while our manufacturing team oversees production and quality control at our ISO-certified facility. Also based in our New York headquarters are our sales, marketing, administrative, and service teams, who work closely together to ensure every customer receives a seamless, personalized experience at every touchpoint.
Role Summary :
The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a critical role in the architecture, design, development, and integration of electrical systems for Clarapath's advanced electro-mechanical medical devices, SectionStar and TrimStar Pro. This role is responsible for leading PCB design and review, developing wiring and harness schematics, designing robust power and control systems, and supporting embedded hardware components while ensuring seamless integration across mechanical and software subsystems. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in hardware electrical design, a strong understanding of embedded systems, and the ability to drive technical decisions from concept through production. We're looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment, mentors junior engineers, and views electrical engineering as a core driver of innovation, reliability, and scalability in medical device development.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design, development, and validation of electrical systems for complex electro-mechanical medical devices
  • Own PCB design and review, including schematic capture, component selection, layout oversight, and design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Design and document wiring diagrams, cable assemblies, and electrical harnesses
  • Develop and support power distribution, control systems, and signal integrity solutions
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, firmware, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure seamless system integration
  • Support embedded hardware development and interface with firmware/software teams on requirements and debugging
  • Drive electrical design through prototyping, testing, verification, and production release
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues at the system, board, and component levels
  • Author and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, test plans, reports, and design history file (DHF) artifacts
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable safety, EMC, and regulatory standards for medical devices
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior electrical engineers
  • Support supplier selection, vendor communication, and design reviews with external partners

Qualifications :
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master's preferred)
  • 7+ years of professional experience in electrical engineering, preferably within medical devices, robotics, or complex electromechanical systems
  • Strong expertise in analog and digital circuit design
  • Proven experience with PCB design tools and electrical CAD software
  • Solid understanding of embedded hardware systems and interfaces (MCUs, sensors, motors, power electronics)
  • Experience designing power systems, motor controls, and low-noise signal paths
  • Ability to read, create, and review schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment and electrical debugging
  • Familiarity with design controls and regulated product development environments
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines
  • Experience in FDA-regulated medical device development, a plus
  • Knowledge of IEC/UL safety standards and EMC compliance testing, a plus
  • Experience supporting products from early R&D through manufacturing scale-up, a plus
  • Exposure to firmware development or scripting for hardware testing, a plus
