Job description


POSITION SUMMARY
The Electrical Engineering Intern will support the development, testing, validation, and documentation of lithium-ion battery energy storage products used in critical power applications. Working alongside experienced electrical, mechanical, firmware, quality, and manufacturing engineers, the intern will gain hands-on experience with battery systems, battery management systems (BMS), electrical test equipment, and new product development processes.
The successful candidate will contribute to engineering projects involving battery cabinets, power electronics, electrical controls, safety compliance, and product validation while developing practical engineering skills in a fast-paced product development environment. This role is ideal for students interested in energy storage, power systems, renewable energy integration, and critical infrastructure.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist engineers with electrical testing and validation of battery energy storage systems and associated electronics.
• Support creation and execution of test plans, data collection, and analysis of test results.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings.
• Assist with troubleshooting electrical, communication, and integration issues during product development and testing.
• Support development and review of engineering documentation, specifications, procedures, and test reports.
• Help evaluate electrical components, sensors, cables, connectors, and battery management system hardware.
• Participate in prototype assembly and laboratory testing activities.
• Assist with sustaining engineering projects, including component substitutions and design improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and product management.
• Support compliance and certification activities related to UL, CSA, IEC, and other applicable standards.
• Maintain safe laboratory practices and follow company safety procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Job Qualifications:
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum sophomore standing preferred.
• Basic understanding of electrical circuits and electronic components.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and technical drawings.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience or coursework in one or more of the following areas:
• Lithium-ion battery systems
• Battery Management Systems (BMS)
• Power electronics
• Industrial power systems
• Renewable energy systems
• Electrical testing and instrumentation
• Data acquisition systems
• MATLAB, Python, or LabVIEW
• AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD software
• Embedded systems and communication protocols (CAN, Modbus, Ethernet)
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
• Ability to work in a laboratory and manufacturing environment.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to safely work around energized electrical equipment under supervision and established safety procedures.
