Job description

Who we are
With its A.I.-powered robotic technology platform, Symbotic is changing the way consumer goods move through the supply chain. Intelligent software orchestrates advanced robots in a high-density, end-to-end system - reinventing warehouse automation for increased efficiency, speed and flexibility.
What we need
We are looking for a Manager of Mechanical Engineering to join our Fleet Robotics team within our Hardware Engineering organization. Your job will be to lead the mechanical development team responsible for a mobile robot product line from concept through production, including hardware design, manufacturing readiness, and sustaining improvements. This role is critical to scaling reliable robotic platforms by combining strong product engineering, contract manufacturer collaboration, and hands-on production problem solving.
We're looking for a creative and collaborative individual who thrives in an agile development environment and is passionate about solving real-world robotics challenges. This role requires not only deep technical expertise but also strong communication and leadership skills to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
What we do
The Fleet Robotics team is part of our Hardware Engineering organization, which is responsible for designing, launching, and sustaining the mobile 4-wheeled robotic platforms that power Symbotic's warehouse automation system. This team develops next-generation robotic hardware while improving current production products for quality, cost, and performance. Fleet Robotics partners closely with Electrical, Software, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Field Operations teams to deliver robust robotic systems at scale.
What you'll do
  • Serve as the mechanical engineering manager responsible for the mobile 4-wheeled robot product lines, owning hardware from concept, release, production ramp, and sustaining through end-of-life.
  • Drive the development of mechanical assemblies including structural frames, drive systems, electromechanical packaging, and supporting hardware components.
  • Collaborate with contract manufacturers, supporting production builds, troubleshooting defects, and resolving quality escapes through RCCA methods.
  • Ensure project plans and delivery commitments are met on-time
  • Coach, mentor, and lead a diverse group of 5-10 engineers, helping them to grow technically and professionally.
  • Promote and instill best practices in mechanical engineering development and production field issue problem solving.
  • Help attract and develop top tier talent through recruitment activities and workforce development.

What you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years engineering experience, including at least 2 years management experience focused on robotics, automation, automotive, aerospace, or electromechanical systems.
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks or similar CAD tools, plus experience with PDM/PLM systems.
