Supervisor, Meter Test & Tool Repair
Supervises employees engaged in the day-to-day operations of a Meter Test and Tool Repair Shop; to direct, train, and supervise union employees in the Meter Shop who are engaged in the purchasing, testing, and shipping of meters and metering transformers, and union employees in Tool Repair who are engaged in the repair of tools (gas, hydraulic, electric, hand, etc.) and manufacturing of personal protective grounds. Maintains a safe work environment. Participates with other team members to provide efficient and reliable service to both internal and external customers. Also responsible for monitoring/managing the operation of the storeroom to ensure a timely inventory of meters and metering equipment and parts used during the tool repair process.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering technology or related discipline with 4 years of related work experience, or associate degree in Engineering Technology or related discipline with 8 years of related work experience.
  • Related work experience includes knowledge of residential, commercial, and industrial metering procedures, work methods, and materials.
  • Knowledge of residential, commercial, and utility electrical distribution systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities through project assignments.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer relations skills and strong leadership skills in directing others.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of union contracts and ability to apply.
  • Thorough knowledge of Company's General Safety Specifications and Accident Prevention Handbook.
  • Knowledge of MMS, SAP, Reporting tools, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office.

Principle Accountabilities
  • Responsible for the safety and day-to-day operations of the meter test shop and tool repair shop and supervision of union employees.
  • Administering the company safety program and ensuring that team members adhere to all safety rules and regulations. Ensuring monthly safety training is conducted and ensuring an effective accident prevention plan and program. Actively demonstrating a commitment to the safety culture at FirstEnergy.
  • Responsible for the training of employees to ensure accurate testing of meters and meter transformers.
  • Responsible for the training of employees to ensure effective repair of various types of tools and manufacturing of personal protective grounds.
  • Ensures that meter test equipment is calibrated to regulatory standards on a cyclical basis and results are archived correctly.
  • Monitors daily shop productivity, coordinates, and coaches to achieve corporate goals, provide shop monthly productivity reporting to manager.
  • Maintains an acceptable meter and metering transformer inventory available for use.
  • Maintains an acceptable inventory of tool repair parts and high value, high turnover tools and instruments.
  • Ensures timely fulfillment of meter, metering transformers, and personal protective ground orders; plans, submits, and tracks equipment orders to maintain inventory levels, coordinates deliveries, and resolves ordering and delivery issues.
  • Communicates to all Field Services Supervisors regarding meter, metering transformer, and personal protective ground inventory and ordering practices.
  • Works with Transportation management to coordinate material deliveries to meet the needs of Meter Services and Line department.
  • Advises regional Meter Services personnel on appropriate metering transformer equipment for the service installation, as well as appropriate substitutions.
  • Meets with vendor representatives; plans and tracks material orders to maintain inventory levels, coordinates deliveries, resolves ordering and delivery issues, and learn about new products and software upgrades.
  • Ensure meter vendor purchase orders and associated data files are accurate for use in MMS, SAP, or smart meter systems.
  • Participates in the first article process with meter engineering, ensuring timely first article approval, nameplate, and barcode accuracy.
  • Works with Customer Services and Meter Services to ensure timely completion of special meter tests (PUCO, customer high-bill, office requests) within the required regulatory timeframe
  • Works daily in various computer systems to analyze customer and meter information.
  • Participates as a team member in various meter-related projects.
  • Travel to Meter Services sections or other Meter Test shops as need.
  • Coordinates and supports hazard responder efforts by initiating staff callouts and obtaining vehicles for use during storm restoration work.
