Position description
The Preuss School UC San Diego is seeking qualified Social Studies teachers to join our applicant pool for anticipated openings in the 2026/2027 school year.
The Preuss School at UC San Diego ( http://preuss.ucsd.edu/ ) is a nationally recognized charter middle and high school dedicated to providing a rigorous college prep education for low-income scholars who will become the first in their families to graduate from college. As a department within UC San Diego Academic Affairs, The Preuss School also serves as a model school to study and develop the best practices in preparation of students of diverse and under-represented backgrounds to access higher education.
Under the supervision of the Principal, The Preuss School Social Studies teachers will provide instruction, encourage student progress, and manage the learning environment. Teach content and skills in subject matter, utilizing courses of study adopted by the California State Curriculum Standards as guidelines. Adapt subject material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students. Establish and maintain an environment conducive to positive teacher/student relations, e.g. on the field, off-site sessions, locker room supervision. Promote an environment which respects and values students' ideas and ways of thinking. Establish, maintain and support standards of personal conduct and discipline in accordance with the current discipline for an orderly, productive learning environment. Use a variety of assessments to monitor and evaluate the learning progress of each student and to make instructional decisions.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Bachelor's degree in Ethnic Studies, History, International Studies, Political Science, or Social Science.
  • Current Single Subject CTC Credential in Social Science, or the same teaching credential from other USA states.
  • English Learner (ELA/ELAS/CLAD/BCLAD equivalent), or Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) Certificate or equivalent authorization from out-of-state.
  • Minimum of one year teaching as a credential Social Studies teacher.
  • Minimum of one year experience in teaching underserved students.
