Job Description
Summary Description: Under the direction of the middle school principal, plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for adolescent students. Working with interdisciplinary teams, provides a school culture conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of adolescents to ensure success for every student. Supervises middle school students in a variety of school-related settings. Communicates and collaborates with middle school students, staff, parents, and community. Develops, selects, and differentiates instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all middle school students. Maintains appropriate records, follows required procedures and practices, and uses data analysis to monitor student achievement. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities. Physical Demands: As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Special Requirements: Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.
Knowledge Skills Abilities: Knowledge of adolescent development, content expertise, and MCPS curriculum and policies. Commitment to the belief that all students can learn characterized by high content and high expectations for all learners. Ability to use a variety of instructional and behavioral management strategies appropriate to the needs of middle school adolescents, and techniques integrating reading, writing, math, and technology throughout the content areas. Ability to self-reflect on instructional practices and personal interactions for continuous improvement. Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school-based staff, students, parents, and community demonstrating organizational agility. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. Commitment to young adolescents serving as an advocate, a role model, and a supporter of diversity (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, developmental differences, learning styles, and exceptionalities). Knowledge and application of the six performance standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS), and the Supporting Services (SEIU) Professional Growth System (SSPGS). Education Training Experience: Bachelor^s degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university with knowledge of adolescent learner.Certificate License:Meets Maryland state certification requirements in appropriate field of education.
