Job description

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH amp; SAFETY MANAGER
The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager plays a crucial role in company operations and in the structural steel fabrication process. The EHS Manager is responsible for developing, updating, and maintaining safety and environmental compliance programs, creating, and maintaining reports and validating compliance. The EHS Manager must interact with employees, contractors, and visitors and must spend a significant amount of time in the plant ensuring that all programs and procedures are appropriate and are being followed. This role sustains and improves current behavior-based safety programs and policies as well as leads and participates in all incident investigations. The EHS Manager conducts internal plant audits and develops and tracks corrective actions based upon audit findings.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Highly motivated individual
  • Degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety and Health or related concentration or equivalent experience/training
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing safety management OR combination of education / multiple years of experience in manufacturing, with a demonstrated knowledge of OSHA standards, EPA regulations and other State and local regulatory agency requirements
  • Knowledge of governmental safety standards, rules and regulations and demonstrated proficiency in applying them
  • Working knowledge of safe work practices and experience in conducting incident investigation and using safety auditing software is highly desired
  • Able to Organize and Manage Reporting Requirements

CERTIFICATIONS
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) desired but not required

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:
  • Be reliable and conscientious
  • Assume a leadership role in the development of the Company Safety Policy
  • Perform safety audits with a focus on personnel, safe use of equipment and materials and adherence to the company’s safety program
  • Conduct training on safety and health topics and incident prevention
  • Establish a safety focused culture and encourage employees to have a positive attitude toward safe work practices
  • Ensure that employees are well-educated in safe practices and have resources to work in a safe manner
  • Ensure the facility’s compliance with all relevant Federal, State and Local regulations/ standards as well as best practices
  • Communication with the management team about changes to regulations which may impact the work taking place
  • Analyze all incidents and near misses and recommend corrective action
  • Submit all company required project safety reports in an accurate and timely manner
  • Accompany OSHA Compliance Officers, EPA Inspectors and insurance inspectors during on-site audits and assist in preparation of written responses or appeals to citations, as required
  • Post all safety bulletins, safety posters, safety rules and applicable legislation
