Job Overview

The EHS Technician reports to the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager, works closely with EHS Specialist, EHS Administrative Assistant and Process Safety Management (PSM) Coordinator to assess company needs, review and analyze information, research for trends and improvement opportunities. Coordinates and executes initiatives for regulatory, workers compensation, environmental compliance, ESG and works within the Kraft Heinz Management System (KHMS) to reach targeted annual goals.

Job Description:

  • Participate/support the RMP (Risk Management Process) and assist in the development of the system and operational standards and corrective actions.
  • Track & analyze safety metrics.
  • Gather, interpret, and use complex data to develop actional steps that will improve processes and optimize results.
  • Coordinate inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 log.
  • Responsible for updating SDS sheets.
  • Performs hourly GEMBA walks on factory floor and grounds of facility.
  • Perform & maintain safety behavioral observations using the Behavioral Observation System, (BOS).
  • Coordinate, execute, and track safety training.
  • Maintain & monitor confidential workers' compensation medical records and cases from the FROI through medical treatment, rehabilitation, return to work and light duty program in accordance with state guidelines.
  • Responsible for day-to-day interaction with workers' compensation third party administrators to ensure timely, accurate claims management through the incident reporting database.
  • Maintain regular communications as company's liaison with the medical community and insurance companies.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of state and federal regulations as they apply to occupational and non-occupational safety, health, and workers' compensation.
  • Participate in plant safety committee meetings.
  • Respond to medical emergencies occurring on company property and administer first aid and/or medical assistance as needed.
  • Coordinate/implement annual audiograms.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of medical, safety and health (PPE) supplies throughout the factory.
  • Functions in a self-directed and organized manner.
  • As necessary, other duties and/or projects may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Environmental, Health & Safety or 3-5 years of related industrial safety field experience.
  • Bilingual fluid exchange between English and Spanish preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel with the capacity to use functions, features, formulas, and macros to organize, analyze, and adjust data.
  • Advanced knowledge of PowerPoint with the ability to create compelling presentations with cohesive themes.
  • Certified in Standard First Aid, CPR/AED - Adult certification and Bloodborne Pathogens Training: PDT.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities in an organized manner and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to develop a professional rapport with employees, management, and medical legal specialists.
  • Able to think clearly and react effectively in medical emergency situations.
  • While this is a third shift, would have the ability to work flexible hourly schedules to include days, afternoons, midnights, and weekends when needed.
  • Proficient skills in calculating figures and applies basic business math.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Ability to use hands/arms to reach, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Ability to work in all areas of the facility including hot and cold areas and be exposed to wet and humid conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and or move up to 50 lbs. or more.
  • Must have excellent vision, distant and peripheral, with the ability to identify and distinguish colors, and adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually high, and ear protection is required.
  • May work near moving mechanical parts, high and/or confining places.
