Are you detail-oriented, customer-focused, and passionate about supporting high-quality scholarly publishing? The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is seeking an Editorial Coordinator, Journals to join our team. The Editorial Coordinator serves as an integral part of the Journals Editorial team by supporting all stages of peer review for several leading engineering journals from initial submission through handoff to ASCE Production under the supervision of a Managing Editor.

The Editorial Coordinator often serves as the first line of communication for authors, editors, and peer reviewers and, therefore, represents the quality and reputation of the journals. The successful candidate will produce clear written materials, prioritize and manage concurrent assignments, and contribute to the timely delivery of high-quality work.

What You'll Do

As an Editorial Coordinator, you'll help ensure the smooth and timely progression of manuscripts from submission through peer review and into production. You will:

  • Process new and revised manuscript submissions and editorial decisions
  • Utilize and oversee agentic, AI-enabled tools within established editorial workflows
  • Manage and respond to journal inbox inquiries
  • Run and monitor reports on manuscript turnaround times and assist with follow-up
  • Support editorial board meetings by preparing reports and taking notes as needed
  • Troubleshoot submission system issues and provide administrative and technical support
  • Partner with Managing Editor(s)on coordinating special collections
  • Contribute as an active member of the Editorial team and Publications Division by participating in meetings and collaborating with colleagues across teams
  • Limited domestic travel within the U.S. may be required, comprising 1-2 trips of less than a week per year.

What You Bring

  • One to 3 years of relevant experience within scholarly publishing is preferred. This may be gained through professional experience, training, education, or other relevant experiences.
  • Experience with journal submission systems as an Editorial Coordinator or Editorial Assistant is highly preferred.
  • Significant customer service experience and the ability to communicate effectively in writing may be considered in lieu of specialized knowledge.
  • This role involves managing multiple projects and deadlines while contributing to the accuracy, quality, and timely delivery of assignments.
  • A high degree of computer literacy and thorough proficiency with MS Office, Teams, and SharePoint or equivalent tools.
  • Completion of a 4-year or 2-year college or university degree is also preferred.
