What does an educational project manager do?

An Educational Project Manager oversees the planning, execution, and completion of projects within educational institutions or organizations. Their responsibilities include coordinating resources, managing budgets, setting timelines, and ensuring projects meet educational goals and standards. They may work on curriculum development, training programs, technology integration, or school improvement initiatives. Effective communication and leadership skills are crucial as they often collaborate with educators, administrators, and stakeholders. Ultimately, their goal is to deliver projects that enhance learning experiences and outcomes.

How does an educational project manager typically collaborate with educators and stakeholders to ensure project success?

An Educational Project Manager works closely with teachers, administrators, and external partners to align project goals with educational needs. Regular meetings, feedback sessions, and progress reports are common tools to ensure everyone stays informed and involved. The Opportunity

The Project Manager is accountable for the successful delivery of customer projects using a structured stage-gate delivery model. This role supports the execution of automation and control systems integration projects within construction-driven environments, including hyperscale data centers.

This role oversees project execution from early planning through commissioning and closeout. The Project Manager partners closely with engineering teams, subcontractors, field personnel, and customers to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with project specifications and contractual commitments. Project Managers lead cross-functional execution teams through defined project gates, leveraging a centralized PMO that provides standards, tools, reporting, and governance, while balancing strong customer leadership with disciplined internal execution.

What You’ll Do

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead assigned projects through defined project phases from execution start through commissioning and closeout.
  • Ensure gate readiness by completing required deliverables and securing approvals prior to advancing.
  • Develop and manage project execution plans, schedules, and budgets aligned with PMO standards.
  • Serve as the primary customer interface for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams across engineering, procurement, fabrication, software, and field services.
  • Identify and manage project risks, issues, and change control.
  • Provide accurate and timely project reporting using standardized PMO tools.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and customer acceptance activities as required.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, and accountability.

Field Coordination:

  • Coordinate daily subcontractor and trade partner activities on the project site.
  • Ensure field work aligns with project drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Assist with scheduling, material planning, and installation progress tracking.
  • Support commissioning readiness and system turnover activities.
  • Promote and enforce safety policies and safe work practices on site.

Customer and Contractor Integration:

  • Serve as a key point of contact for customers, general contractors, and trade partners.
  • Communicate project updates, schedules, and milestones clearly and proactively.
  • Build strong professional relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and communication records.

What We’re Looking For

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience managing complex industrial or systems integration projects.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors, schedules, and project documentation on active job sites.
  • Exposure to automation, control systems integration, or mission critical infrastructure environments is beneficial.
  • PMP certification or progress toward certification is preferred.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success coordinating construction-site activities or technical project execution.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and project scheduling software such as MS Project or Smartsheet.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with remote teams and leadership.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and how project decisions impact safety and system performance.

What You’ll Get

  • Competitive compensation with annual bonus opportunity
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with low-cost options
  • Paid time off and sick leave
  • Tuition reimbursement and professional credential support
  • In-house and external technical training opportunities
  • Exposure to complex, high-impact automation projects
