Job description

About the Team
OpenAI's Developer Experience team helps developers, startups, and organizations around the world understand and build with frontier AI. Our mission is to make it seamless and delightful for builders to integrate AI into applications, workflows, products, and companies, and to give them the tools, resources, examples, and support they need to unlock AI's full potential.
We create inspiring demos, sample applications, technical content, learning experiences, and developer programs that show what is possible with Codex, the OpenAI API platform, ChatGPT, and frontier models like GPT-5.5. The work spans product education, launch storytelling, hands-on teaching, and AI-native examples that help people move from curiosity to real-world fluency.
We collaborate closely with product, engineering, research, GTM, communications, and community teams to make the journey from first exposure to production adoption clear, effective, and memorable. As capabilities change quickly, we help users build durable mental models that transfer across products, models, and new ways of working.
About the Role
We're looking for a Developer Education Lead to define how people learn to work with OpenAI's products at the frontier of AI. The pace of model and product progress means that what is possible can move faster than what people understand how to use. This role turns that gap into a rigorous, creative education strategy for developers, teams, and organizations learning to build with AI.
You will own the strategy for educating builders and organizations across OpenAI's ecosystem, from developers adopting APIs and coding agents to teams learning how ChatGPT, Codex, GPT-5.5, multimodal capabilities, and emerging product surfaces can reshape their work. The goal is not just to explain features - it is to create moments of understanding that help people build new intuition for what AI can do and how to use it responsibly, creatively, and effectively.
In this role, you will:
  • Own the education strategy for OpenAI's product ecosystem, ensuring learning experiences connect across Codex, ChatGPT, APIs, frontier models like GPT-5.5, enterprise surfaces, and future launches.
  • Build and manage an education roadmap that prioritizes what gets taught, for whom, when, and through which formats across launches and evergreen learning.
  • Create scalable educational programs, demos, curricula, workshops, launch materials, and interactive experiences that help audiences understand frontier AI capabilities.
  • Design learning journeys for broad audiences, including developers and non-technical users.
  • Partner with product, research, engineering, go-to-market, communications, and community teams to ensure major launches ship with clear educational framing, practical examples, and paths from first exposure to successful adoption.
  • Experiment with new formats for education, including in-product learning, interactive web experiences, hands-on labs, video, live teaching, community programs, and AI-native tutorials.
  • Use OpenAI's own products as teaching surfaces, creating examples where people learn by building, exploring, prompting, coding, analyzing, or automating real workflows.
  • Establish feedback loops, content audits, and quality bars so learning materials stay current as models, APIs, product surfaces, and deprecations evolve.
  • Define and track success metrics that reflect real understanding, activation, adoption, and durable AI fluency rather than only reach or impressions.

Your background might look something like:
  • 7+ years of experience in developer education, product education, developer relations, technical content strategy, product marketing, instructional design, or a related field.
  • Experience owning education, developer experience, or content strategy roadmaps end to end, including how work is prioritized, shipped, maintained, and measured.
  • A track record of making complex technical or scientific ideas feel clear, exciting, and actionable for broad audiences.
  • Deep product intuition and strong judgment about how people adopt new tools, form mental models, and change workflows.
  • Enough technical fluency to use new AI tools deeply, prototype with them when useful, and partner credibly with product and engineering teams.
  • Experience building educational programs or content systems that scale across channels, launches, audiences, and levels of technical depth.
  • Ability to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders, synthesize ambiguous inputs, and turn early product direction into crisp learning experiences.
  • Comfort operating in fast-moving environments where the technology, audience needs, and product surface are changing quickly.
  • High taste for demos, examples, and teaching moments that make abstract capabilities tangible.
  • Strong writing, storytelling, editing, and facilitation skills across written, live, video, interactive, and AI-native formats.
  • A builder mindset, high agency, and a bias toward experimenting with new educational formats rather than defaulting to traditional documentation.
  • Genuine excitement about helping people at the frontier of AI learn what is newly possible across OpenAI's products.
