Special Education Supervisor - Behavior Support (260 days)
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education (LEA)
GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Special Education Supervisor works under the direction of the Local Educational Agency (LEA), Director of Special Education, as well as the Saginaw ISD Executive Director of Special Education. This position will provide leadership that includes but is not limited to the administration and management of Special Education Programs and those activities adjunct to Special Education. The Supervisor will aid the LEA Director with the management of Special Education instructional staff including evaluation of Special Education teachers and support staff. This position is responsible for ensuring students' IEPCs are correct and legally implemented. The Supervisor is responsible for maximizing student learning outcomes for those students involved in Special Education in his/her assigned building and programs. The Supervisor must be fully conversant with the state and federal laws pertaining to special education. The Supervisor is responsible for providing quality customer service to the staff and the public in the assigned school district.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Function as a Special Education Administrator for the district in conjunction with additional Special Education Director assigned to the district.
  2. Assist the LEA Director of Special Education and the Superintendent as assigned with administration of behavior support, including student engagement and attendance.
  3. Inform the LEA Director of Special Education, Superintendent and other district administrators on all relevant special education data, including but not limited to; student attendance, Special Education behavior support, and any data related to the Catamaran System.
  4. Act as the potential Designee of the Superintendent in matters relating to Special Education as permitted in Special Education Rules and Regulations.
  5. As assigned by the LEA Director of Special Education , administer the student code of conduct and discipline of students with disabilities focusing on positive behavioral, social, and emotional development. In addition to the above, support a system to deal with bullying and harassment.
  6. Oversee Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students assigned to local district programs and services in LEA buildings as assigned by the LEA Director of Special Education. This oversight includes attending IEPs, conducting IEPs, ensuring proper implementation of IEPs and procedural issues relative to IEPs.
  7. Continually monitor and evaluate the District's Special Education Programs and Services for both compliance and quality.
  8. Assist the LEA Director of Special Education relative to Special Education with corrective actions for monitoring and compliance violations.
  9. Keep accurate records of professional activities.
  10. Maintain professional competency by attending meetings, in-services, conferences, workshops and participating in professional organizations.
  11. Other duties as assigned by the LEA Director of Special Education and the SISD Executive Director of Special Education.
  12. Provide supervision of ancillary staff/services assigned to the district by the LEA Director of Special Education and the SISD Executive Director of Special Education.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Michigan Teacher Certificate with at least one area of endorsement in Special Education.
  2. A Master's Degree, preferably in Special Education.
  3. Full approval as a Supervisor of Special Education in Michigan.
  4. State of Michigan Administrator Certificate or ability to complete in three years.
  5. Previous administrative experience as a supervisor of special education is preferred.
  6. Three years of successful professional practice in Special Education, administrative experience in Special Education, or a combination thereof.
  7. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  8. Ability to work well with others as a team member in a collaborative environment.
  9. Ability to meet the needs of the District to which they are assigned.
