Job description

Step into an impactful leadership role where you'll shape special education services in a warm, collaborative school environment. Located near Detroit, MI, this contract opportunity places you at the forefront of K-12 special education, balancing direct service and program management. You'll manage a manageable caseload of 10-18 students, ensuring individualized support and growth. With responsibilities extending to SPED Director, your expertise will guide school-wide compliance, professional development, and effective delivery of special education programs. This is your chance to foster both student progress and a strong, supportive team. The weekly schedule starts at 35 hours and increases to 40 hours/week after Labor Day, providing stability through June 18, 2027.

Your qualifications and experience:

  • Valid Special Education Teacher certification
  • Prior experience as a Special Education Teacher; leadership or programming oversight experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of federal and state education regulations relating to special education
  • Strong organizational skills for caseload management and program oversight
  • Effective communicator and collaborator

In this position, you will:

  • Serve as the school's SPED Director, overseeing all aspects of special education programming
  • Manage a caseload of 10-18 K-12 students, developing and implementing IEPs
  • Provide instructional and behavioral support to meet diverse student needs
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, and families
  • Support and mentor special education staff within the school
  • Ensure school-wide compliance with all special education legal requirements
