What does an editorial manager do?

An Editorial Manager oversees the planning, editing, and production of content for publications, websites, or media platforms. Responsibilities often include managing editorial calendars, enforcing deadlines, and maintaining consistency in tone and style. They may also collaborate with stakeholders to develop content strategies and optimize workflows.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an editorial manager?

To thrive as an Editorial Manager, you need a strong background in content creation, editing, and project management, often supported by a degree in English, journalism, or communications. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), editorial planning tools, and style guides such as AP or Chicago Manual of Style is common, and certification in editing or digital publishing is advantageous. Leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to mentor and motivate team members are highly valuable soft skills. These competencies ensure efficient editorial workflows, high-quality content, and a positive, collaborative work environment.

What are the main challenges an editorial manager faces in coordinating an editorial team?

Editorial Managers often manage multiple projects and tight deadlines, so balancing priorities and ensuring consistent quality across deliverables can be challenging.
