Social Media Internship Overview

Huntington Bank is seeking creative, curious and collaborative college students to join our Social Media Internship Program.

Eligibility note: This internship is open to rising college juniors enrolled during Summer 2027 at one of the Huntington partner schools for this program: University of Michigan, University of Minnesota, West Virginia University, University of Texas, The Ohio State University, University of Mississippi, University of Alabama or Mississippi State University.

This internship offers hands-on experience across the full social media content lifecycle within a highly regulated industry. Interns will join Huntington’s editorial content team and work alongside social media, brand, creative, video and production partners to learn how content moves from initial concept through creation, approval, publication and performance evaluation.

Each intern will come from one of Huntington’s partner universities and bring their campus perspective into the program. Working remotely from their home communities, with hybrid in-office participation for Columbus-based interns, interns will contribute ideas, insights and content recommendations that help Huntington connect with customers, communities and university audiences across our footprint. As part of the experience, each intern will develop localized content guidance that reflects their campus, student audience and community context.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with fellow interns and mentors to develop social media concepts grounded in audience needs, business goals, cultural moments and emerging platform opportunities.
  • Participate in brainstorming, creative reviews and content planning discussions by presenting concepts, explaining recommendations and contributing constructive feedback.
  • Work with the editorial content team member who creates and delivers Huntington’s advice and guidance newsletter to identify relevant articles and incorporate them into social plans in ways that are useful, timely and audience-aware.
  • Create, edit, optimize and adapt content for a variety of social platforms and formats, including original photo or video content when opportunities arise and repurposed brand, event or partnership assets.
  • Develop a localized social content toolkit, guide or plan for their Huntington partner university, helping the team understand campus culture, student needs, relevant moments and content opportunities, then present their recommendations to the brand team and other relevant Huntington stakeholders at the end of the internship.
  • Support content planning, workflow management, project execution and performance analysis to help improve future social media content.

What You'll Learn

  • Content Strategy, Concept Development & Audience Insight: Learn how leading brands identify audience needs, generate ideas and build content strategies that support business objectives, audience engagement, relevant cultural moments and localized opportunities for Huntington partner universities.
  • Content Creation, Storytelling & Editorial-to-Social Integration: Develop skills in social-first storytelling, content production, copywriting, editing, platform adaptation and content optimization, including how advice and guidance articles can be adapted into useful, timely social plans.
  • Creative Pitching, Collaboration & Feedback: Gain experience presenting ideas, explaining creative rationale, communicating recommendations to peers and stakeholders, and refining work through constructive feedback and collaboration.
  • Project Management: Understand how projects move from concept to completion through planning, timelines, approvals and stakeholder coordination.
  • Brand Standards, Compliance & Reputational Risk: Experience how content is created and reviewed within a regulated financial services environment while balancing strong creative ideas with brand standards, business objectives, risk management and reputational considerations.
  • Measurement & Assessment: Learn how social media content is evaluated and how performance insights are used to improve future content strategies.

Required Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly.
  • Enthusiasm for social media and a thoughtful understanding of its value, influence, challenges and responsibility as a public-facing communication channel.
  • Creativity, curiosity and willingness to contribute new ideas.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Comfort working independently in a remote environment and collaborating effectively with others.
  • Openness to giving, receiving and incorporating constructive feedback.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience creating content for personal, academic, volunteer, student organization, freelance or professional channels, including social media posts, video, photography, graphics, copywriting or other digital storytelling formats.
  • Comfort using creative tools such as CapCut, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, in-app editing tools within social platforms or similar platforms to edit, design or adapt content.
  • Interest in how social platforms work, including audience engagement, trends, platform best practices and the role social media can play in building connection, trust and action.
  • Experience contributing to group projects, events, campaigns or creative initiatives, including presenting ideas, collaborating with peers and working toward a shared goal.

Qualifications
