                                                                                                                                                                   JOB DESCRIPTION

 Job Title: ISS Instructor / Behavior Interventionist & Content Recovery Specialist

 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Classified)

 Days of Work: 190

 GENERAL SUMMARY

 Under limited supervision, the ISS Instructor / Behavior Interventionist & Content Recovery Specialist provides instructional and behavioral support to students assigned to In-School Suspension (ISS) or content recovery. The position promotes positive behavior, assists students in meeting academic goals through the Edgenuity learning platform, and provides mentoring to support social-emotional growth and school engagement. The ISS Instructor implements intervention strategies that encourage appropriate behavior, accountability, and academic progress while maintaining a structured, supportive environment. Reports to the Principal or designee. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)

  Behavior Intervention & Support 

     o Implements behavior intervention plans and restorative strategies aligned with the school's behavior plans. 

    o Provides individual and group mentoring to help students build coping skills, conflict-resolution abilities, and decision-making capacity.

    o Monitors and documents student behavior, communicating trends to counselors, administrators, and parents.

   o Collaborates with school counselors, administrators, and teachers to identify underlying causes of behavior and design proactive supports. 

Instructional Support & Content Recovery 

   o Facilitates instruction and monitors progress for students completing assignments through Edgenuity or other virtual learning platforms.

   o Provides academic assistance and ensures students remain on track toward credit recovery and course completion.

   o Communicates with classroom teachers to coordinate assignments, grades, and student progress.

   o Maintains accurate student records and ensures accountability for coursework and behavior expectations.

  Student Mentorship & Engagement 

   o Serves as a mentor and role model for students requiring additional social emotional support.

    o Conducts regular check-ins to encourage goal setting, reflection, and personal growth. 

   o Helps transition students successfully back into the general education setting following ISS placement or content recovery completion. 

Administrative & Safety Responsibilities

    o Maintains a structured, safe, and respectful learning environment within the ISS room.

    o Monitors attendance, maintains daily logs, and provides reports to administration as required.

    o Participates in professional development and contributes to school-wide behavior and intervention initiatives. 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 Education and Experience: 

Bachelor's degree in Education or related field preferred. 

Experience working with high-school-aged students in behavioral or alternative settings strongly preferred. 

Knowledge: 

Understanding of behavior intervention strategies, classroom management, and restorative practices. 

Familiarity with the Edgenuity platform or similar online instructional tools. 

Knowledge of adolescent development and social-emotional learning principles.

 Skills/Effort: 

Strong interpersonal, communication, and de-escalation skills.

  Ability to mentor students and build positive relationships.

  Excellent organizational and documentation skills. 

Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and community partners. 

Working Conditions: 

School environment with limited exposure to environmental conditions.

  Physical demands restricted to general classroom activities.

  Occasional lifting of materials up to ten pounds and regular student supervision required.
