EDE stands for 'Eligibility Determination Entity.' In the context of healthcare, especially within the U.S. Marketplace system, an EDE is a private entity or technology platform authorized to perform eligibility determinations for health insurance coverage. EDEs allow consumers to apply for and enroll in Marketplace health insurance plans directly through their websites, rather than through HealthCare.gov. They must meet strict privacy and security requirements to handle sensitive personal information. EDEs help streamline the enrollment process and can offer additional tools or support to consumers.
