Responsibilities

ECS is hiring a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join ourย team in Atlanta, GA! As a Principal Geotechnical Engineer with ECS you willย providesย technical leadership for major projectsย across multiple sectors โ€“ public infrastructure, commercial, industrial, mission critical/data center and much more.ย ย 

Combining technical excellence with mentorship and business development. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of field staff, engineers, and scientists while serving as a primary technical authority for the region.ย 

Key Responsibilitiesย 

  • Serve as the final technical reviewerย and signatoryย for geotechnical reports,ย designs,ย plansย and analysis. Ensuring 100% accuracy of designs and project deliverables.ย 
  • Oversee the development of geotechnical engineering reports and design packages, providing technicalย sealย andย signatureย as the Engineer of Record.ย 
  • Provide technicalย expertiseย for geotechnical staff across the branch and region, focusing onย various local, regional, and state regulations.ย 
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, technicians,ย designers,ย and project managers to support professional growth and internal promotion.ย 
  • Lead complex engineering designs for slope stability, shallow and deep foundations,ย retainingย structures, and settlement evaluations.ย 
  • Direct project managers on field exploration activities, including drilling, test pits, and site inspections.ย 
  • Driveย business development by attending client meetings andย identifyingย growth opportunities to expand our transportation portfolio.ย 
  • Collaborate with the Associate Principal review committee toย identifyย and mentor future leadership candidates.ย

Qualifications

Basic Qualificationsย 

  • 12 or more years of experience in geotechnical and transportation engineering.ย 
  • Bachelorโ€™s orย Masterโ€™s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, orย a relatedย field.ย 
  • Professionalย Engineer (PE) license isย required;ย Professionalย Geologist (PG) license may be acceptable depending on state requirements.ย 
  • Documentedย expertiseย in DOT Geotechnical Design Manual (GDM) and AASHTO LRFD specifications.ย 
  • Proficiencyย in MicroStation,ย OpenRoadsย or similar programs for infrastructure and highway design projects.ย 
  • Proven trackย record ofย serving as a senior technical reviewer atย a previousย engineering firm.ย 
  • Valid driverโ€™s license for travel to project sites and client meetings.ย 

Preferred Qualificationsย 

  • Utilize specialized software including gINT,ย LPile,ย APile, MSEW, FB-Pier, and GRLWEAP to deliver innovative design solutions.ย 
  • Experience managing 3 or more large-scale transportation projects simultaneously.ย 
  • Active participation in industry organizations such as ASCE, ACEC, or specialized geotechnical institutes.ย
