What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an RF Intern Summer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an RF Intern Summer, you typically need a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles, radio frequency (RF) fundamentals, and coursework in related fields. Familiarity with RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, simulation software like MATLAB or ADS, and possibly a relevant internship or lab experience are valuable. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with teams and adapt to technical challenges. These competencies are crucial for successfully supporting RF projects, troubleshooting issues, and contributing meaningfully in a fast-paced engineering environment.

What are RF Intern Summer positions?

RF Intern Summer positions are internship roles focused on radio frequency (RF) engineering, typically offered by technology or telecommunications companies during the summer months. These internships provide hands-on experience working with RF systems, such as wireless communication devices, antennas, and signal processing. Interns may assist in designing, testing, and troubleshooting RF circuits and systems under the guidance of experienced engineers. The goal is to help students or recent graduates gain practical skills and industry exposure in RF engineering. These roles are ideal for those pursuing degrees in electrical engineering or related fields.

What types of projects and collaborations can an RF Intern expect during a summer internship?

As an RF Intern during the summer, you can expect to work on hands-on projects related to radio frequency circuit design, testing, and analysis. You will often collaborate closely with experienced engineers, participate in lab measurements, and contribute to troubleshooting and optimizing RF components or systems. The internship typically provides exposure to both individual and team-based assignments, allowing you to gain practical skills and a better understanding of how RF engineering teams operate within larger organizations.

Job description

Spectrum Engineering Intern (Summer 2026)

Internships at Astranis typically last for twelve weeks, and are hourly roles designed for students who are currently enrolled at a four-year university.

As an Intern, you will have an amazing opportunity to work on hard problems - we pride ourselves on giving everyone at Astranis a chance to do meaningful work on complex projects, no matter their seniority. Many past interns have designed and tested hardware/software that is heading to space on our first satellite, and many of them are now full-time employees at Astranis.

If you have already graduated from a four-year university, please apply to be an Associate Engineer.

Role

Help the Regulatory team develop spectrum resources for Astranis for years to come! Learn about spectrum management, how the FCC licenses spectrum, the International Telecommunication Union's role, and how satellite companies apply for the ability to launch satellite systems through these processes! Learn how to perform RF interference analyses to determine how Astranis satellites can share with other systems.

Requirements
  • Completion of 2nd year of bachelor's in engineering. Preferably electrical, space focused or aeronautical.
  • Interest in the intersection of legal with engineering.
  • Strong drive to make things happen. Self-starter.
  • Able to move work forward while still having some questions!
Bonus
  • More years completed in engineering school; class in satellite communications
