What is an economic service worker?

Economic Service Workers are professionals who assist individuals and families in accessing public assistance programs, such as food stamps, Medicaid, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). They assess clients' eligibility, help them complete applications, and provide information about available social services. Economic Service Workers play a vital role in supporting vulnerable populations and ensuring they receive the resources necessary for basic needs and improved well-being.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an economic service worker?

To thrive as an Economic Service Worker, you need knowledge of social services programs, case management, and eligibility determination, typically supported by a relevant associate or bachelor’s degree. Competence with case management software, government databases, and document management systems is often required. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial for building rapport with clients and collaborating with agencies. These skills ensure accurate benefits processing, compliance with regulations, and meaningful support for individuals and families in need.
