E-Commerce Fulfillment Clerk
Seasonal Part-Time
Compensation: $16/hr
SUMMARY
The Seasonal E-Commerce Fulfillment Clerk supports the accurate and timely fulfillment of online, phone, and interdepartmental orders for George Washington's Mount Vernon Retail. Working under the direction of the E-Commerce Fulfillment Supervisor, this position picks, packs, and ships merchandise; assists with gift wrap; maintains orderly work areas; and helps protect inventory accuracy during the busy holiday season.
Success in this role is measured by order accuracy, productivity, dependable attendance, careful handling of merchandise, and positive teamwork.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Order Fulfillment
  • Pick merchandise for e-commerce, phone, and interdepartmental orders using order documentation and system instructions.
  • Verify item numbers, quantities, product condition, gift messages, and special instructions before packing.
  • Pack orders securely and neatly using the correct packaging materials while protecting merchandise from damage in transit.
  • Apply shipping labels and required documentation accurately and stage completed packages for carrier pickup.
  • Help the team meet same-day or next-business-day shipping expectations for orders received by established cutoff times.
Returns Gift Wrap and Customer Care
  • Prepare gift-wrapped orders and enclosures carefully and consistently with Mount Vernon's presentation standards.
  • Promptly report damaged merchandise, missing items, address concerns, or other order exceptions to the E-Commerce Fulfillment Supervisor.
Inventory and Work Area Support
  • Assist with cycle counts, stock checks, replenishment, and location maintenance as assigned.
  • Keep fulfillment stations, storage areas, supplies, and equipment clean, organized, and safe.
  • Follow procedures for handling fragile, high-value, food, and other specially designated merchandise.
Systems Safety and Teamwork
  • Use Shopify, the integrated shipping platform, scanners, and other fulfillment tools as trained.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures, safety requirements, and instructions related to order and inventory handling.
  • Communicate clearly with the E-Commerce Fulfillment Supervisor and coworkers about workload, order exceptions, supply needs, and potential delays.
  • Support peak-period priorities and other Retail or Warehouse duties as assigned based on business needs.
SCHEDULE AND EMPLOYMENT TERM
  • Seasonal position working approximately 32-40 hours per week through January 30, 2027.
  • Schedule will be based on operational needs and may include weekdays, Saturdays, and additional hours during peak sales periods.
  • Reliable attendance and schedule flexibility are essential during the holiday and post-holiday fulfillment season.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience in e-commerce fulfillment, retail, warehouse operations, shipping, or a related environment is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to learn and accurately use web-based order, shipping, and inventory systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate, careful work.
  • Ability to follow instructions, manage repetitive tasks efficiently, and ask questions when information is unclear.
  • Clear and professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Dependable, flexible, organized, and able to maintain productivity during periods of high order volume.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Regular standing and walking with occasional sitting.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for picking, packing, scanning, labeling, and data entry.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, and moving throughout fulfillment and storage areas.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation.
