Full-time

Job description

SHIA is looking for a reliable, detail-oriented dishwasher who is passionate about both high culinary standards and protecting our planet. In this role, you won't just be washing dishesโ€”you will be the frontline guardian of our kitchen's green initiatives. You will ensure the highest levels of cleanliness and sanitation while actively managing waste reduction, water conservation, and eco-friendly chemical usage.

Key Responsibilities

Eco-Waste & Resource Management

  • Master and enforce our kitchenโ€™s waste diversion system by accurately sorting items into compost, recycling, and landfill streams.
  • Safely handle and dilute biodegradable, non-toxic cleaning agents and sanitizers according to manufacturer and health department guidelines.

Cleanliness & Organization

  • Operate, maintain, and clean the dishwashing machine according to eco-protocols and health standards.
  • Wash, sanitize, and properly store all plates, glassware, utensils, pots, and pans.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and dry dish pit area to prevent accidents and cross-contamination.
  • Assist with heavy kitchen cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and taking out sorted waste to designated exterior bins.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with line cooks and chefs to ensure clean equipment is cycled back into rotation efficiently.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, leaks, or resource waste (e.g., a running faucet) to management immediately.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: Previous experience as a dishwasher or kitchen steward is preferred but not requiredโ€”we will train anyone with the right attitude!
  • Sustainability Mindset: A genuine interest in environmental sustainability, zero-waste practices, or green hospitality.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a hot, humid, and fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to spot a smudge on a wine glass and tell the difference between compostable packaging and landfill plastic.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by restaurant volume.

What We Offer

  • Competitive hourly wage
  • Free shift meals prepared with locally sourced, sustainable ingredients.
  • Opportunities for growth within our green culinary program.
  • A supportive, inclusive team culture that cares about the community and the environment.
