Ecmo Technology information

Are ECMO Technology specialists in demand?

ECMO technology specialists are in high demand due to the increasing use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in critical care. They require specialized training and certification, and job opportunities are growing in hospitals and healthcare facilities worldwide as ECMO becomes more widely adopted for severe respiratory and cardiac conditions.

What is the difference between Ecmo Technology vs Respiratory Therapist?

AspectEcmo TechnologyRespiratory Therapist
Required CertificationsECMO Specialist Certification, Respiratory Therapist LicenseRespiratory Therapist License, RRT credential
Work EnvironmentICUs, cardiac centers, specialized hospitalsHospitals, clinics, emergency settings
Industry UsageCritical care, advanced life supportRespiratory support, ventilator management

Ecmo Technicians focus on operating and maintaining ECMO machines used in critical care, requiring specialized certifications. Respiratory Therapists provide respiratory support and manage ventilators, often working alongside ECMO teams. While both roles work in critical care environments, Ecmo Technology is more specialized in ECMO systems, whereas Respiratory Therapy covers broader respiratory support functions.

How to become an ECMO Technology?

To become an ECMO technologist, individuals typically need a background in respiratory therapy, nursing, or perfusion technology, along with specialized training in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) systems. Certification through organizations like the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or the National Board for Respiratory Care can enhance job prospects, and hands-on experience with ECMO equipment is essential for proficiency.

Job description

Medical Doctors Only Apply. A Cardiology Physician Invasive - Interventional Cardiologist practice is seeking a qualified physician for Vidalia, GA. This and other physician jobs brought to you by ExactMD. My GA client has opened a search for one board certified or board eligible interventional cardiologist to join three other interventional cardiologists and four mid-levels in two locations. This is an immediate opening created by growing demand with our ever expanding service area plus the departure of one of their excellent interventional cardiologists who is relocating in order to be close to his immediate family. Call will be no more than 1:3. They employ two outpatient only cardiologists in the same two locations The selected candidate will be employed within the family of corporations that currently employs approximately 75 excellent providers who could basically practice anywhere in the country. Many of these employed providers are primary care so there is an excellent built-in referral base. Additionally, their system is surrounded by smaller hospitals that are supported by primary care physicians only, therefore often use the Medical Center’s specialists. This facility is the smallest hospital in Georgia with a free standing interventional cath lab. They offer the latest in technology to include EKOS, ECMO and integrated Siemens Artis dual-purpose cath lab for both peripheral and coronary work. They also offer the full service line in cardiology to include, TEE, ECHO, vascular, nuclear, and CTA. There will be a $100,000 signing bonus and the minimum starting salary will be $500,000. These numbers will be determined by the credentials of the candidate selected. Their benefit package is second to none. They pay for all practice expenses. Full relocation reimbursement. There are probably very few rural hospitals/systems like theirs in the country. Over the last several years they have gone from 350 employees and one specialist to 1,100 employees and 30+ specialists.. Please contact me at your earliest convenience to discuss the details of this or any other opportunity you may be considering. Also, feel free to forward this posting to any of your colleagues who may have an interest.
