Description: The Assistant Show Choir Director supports the Show Choir Director in delivering high-quality vocal and performance instruction during rehearsals and provides supervision and operational support during evening rehearsals and weekend competitions. This role helps students grow musically and professionally while ensuring rehearsals and events run smoothly, safely, and on schedule. This position typically includes after-school rehearsals, some evening rehearsals, and weekend competitions during the performance season.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in vocal music, choral performance, show choir, theatre, dance, or related performing arts
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, including competition travel as scheduled
  • Strong communication skills with students, staff, and families
  • Ability to supervise students effectively and maintain high expectations
  • Positive, team-first mindset and ability to take direction and collaborate
  • Strong organization skills and reliability (punctual, prepared, follow-through)
  • Student-centered approach with consistent expectations and encouragement
  • Ability to adapt quickly during live events and time-sensitive schedules

Rehearsal Support:
  • Assist with leading full-group rehearsals, sectionals, and small-group work as assigned
  • Reinforce vocal technique, blending, diction, musicality, and performance quality
  • Support choreography rehearsal by helping students clean visuals and transitions (as directed by the Show Choir Director/choreographer)
  • Take attendance, help maintain rehearsal pacing, and support classroom/rehearsal management
  • Provide individual coaching and feedback to students in a positive, growth-focused manner
  • Help with music learning support (notes, rhythms, expression, memorization)
  • Other duties as assigned by building principal and/or supervisor

Competition & Event Support:
  • Attend and support weekend competitions, performances, and required events.
  • Assist with student supervision before, during and after performances (including warmups and staging)
  • Help manage logistics: call times, schedules, transitions, equipment movement, quick changes, and student check-ins
  • Support communication with students and chaperones to ensure expectations and timelines are followed
  • Help maintain a safe, organized, and professional environment during travel and events
  • Assist with post-event wrap-up: loading/unloading, inventory checks, and facility cleanup

Program Operations:
  • Assist with managing costumes, props, microphones, sound needs, and performance materials as assigned
  • Help maintain inventory lists and organization of choir storage areas
  • Support fundraising, publicity, or parent/booster coordination as requested
  • Model professional conduct and uphold school policies, code of conduct, and district expectations.

Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Have at least a high school diploma or GED
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. to chest height occasionally
  • Complete and pass an Expanded Criminal background and CPS Check

Compensation:
  • Paid via stipend based on the district's extracurricular pay schedule

Reports to: Building Principal and/or Building Supervisor, Show Choir Director, Performing Arts Department Chair
