Job description

JOIN OUR TEAM AS A CONSTRUCTION LABORATORY TECHNICIAN!

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

EBA Engineering, Inc. (EBA) is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support our Construction Materials Testing Laboratory in Laurel, MD. Laboratory Technicians assist the Lab Manager with quality control testing and accurate documentation of construction materials. This role requires certain MARTCP and safety certifications, which must be obtained prior to or within 90 days of employment. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform laboratory testing for asphalt samples, including binder content, aggregate gradation, bulk specific gravity, maximum specific gravity, and gyratory compaction.
  • Conduct soil and aggregate laboratory tests such as soil moisture, moisture-density tests (Proctor), California Bearing Ratio (CBR), grain-size analysis, and Atterberg limits.
  • Perform compressive strength testing on concrete cylinders, cores, masonry block, and prisms.
  • Receive, sort, log, and maintain concrete and construction material specimens delivered to the laboratory following established procedures.
  • Perform quality control testing using the laboratory load frame. Testing may include concrete, grout, and mortar properties such as temperature, slump, air content, unit weight, and molding cylinders.
  • Complete daily reports and document laboratory testing procedures accurately.
  • Learn and apply ASTM and other laboratory test procedures.
  • Perform maintenance and calibration of laboratory and field equipment as assigned.
  • Conduct data entry, record keeping, and preparation of test reports.
  • Perform necessary calculations of test data under supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor.

CORE REQUIREMENTS:

To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Clean driving record and a valid driver's license in good standing
  • Reliable, punctual, and ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to use and maintain laboratory equipment safely and effectively
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrains.
  • Basic math and computer knowledge
  • Strong attention to detail

CERTIFICATIONS:

Candidates must possess the following certifications, or the ability to obtain them within 90 days of employment:

  • Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Level I
  • Soil Laboratory Testing Technician
  • Hot-Mix Asphalt Laboratory Technician
  • Asphalt Plant Technician
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Training
