What is an Easytrieve?

An Easytrieve job involves working with Easytrieve, a report-generation and data-processing tool used on mainframe systems. Professionals in this role write, modify, and optimize Easytrieve programs to extract, analyze, and present data stored in databases or files. They often work with COBOL, JCL, and other mainframe technologies to automate reporting and improve data processing efficiency.

What does an Easytrieve programmer do?

Easytrieve programmers are primarily responsible for developing, modifying, and maintaining Easytrieve programs to generate customized reports and data extracts from large mainframe datasets. On a daily basis, they analyze data structures, collaborate with business analysts or end users to clarify reporting requirements, write and test program code, and troubleshoot any issues that arise during production runs. They may also participate in code reviews and provide technical support to other team members. This role often requires balancing multiple tasks and working closely with data and IT teams to ensure data integrity and timely delivery of outputs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an Easytrieve position?

To thrive in an Easytrieve programmer or analyst role, you need a solid understanding of mainframe data processing, experience with Easytrieve coding, and strong data analysis abilities.
