Superintendent, Specializing in Pipe & Earthwork

Greater Herndon, VA area

Do you agonize over details and make sure all your work is performed correctly the first time? Do you quickly become an expert in the subject matter you’re working in? If you enjoy working within systems, improving efficiency, and solving problems, we’d like to hear from you.

We are seeking a Site Superintendent with experience in heavy civil construction, specifically underground utilities and earthwork operations. This role requires someone who understands the sequencing of mass grading, excavation, trenching, and pipe installation, and who can lead crews to execute safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate relevant project information to the appropriate people in a timely and accurate manner
  • Understand project requirements and identify and develop plans for risks and opportunities
  • Develop and execute a detailed plan for both earthwork and pipe installation activities
  • Ensure all work is performed safely and according to project requirements the first time
  • Ensure crews are prepared daily for execution through defined planning processes
  • Oversee mass grading, excavation, trenching, backfill, compaction, and underground utility installation
  • Review time sheets and utilize the Quantity Log to ensure correct time and quantities
  • Develop and orchestrate work from a three-week schedule-look schedule aligned with the overall project schedule
  • Meet project execution and production goals; minimize rework
  • Create and maintain accurate Daily Activity Reports and job photos
  • Align manpower and equipment for optimal results while creating field personnel development opportunities
  • Protect and maintain all company and rental equipment and property
  • Compile daily labor hour review reports to ensure time and quantities align with the budget
  • Weekly review and analyzes of project’s manpower and equipment
  • Ensure timely reporting of all accidents, incidents, rework, damage, and near misses
  • Maintain customer relationships by staying engaged throughout the project


Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a Superintendent in heavy civil construction
  • Proven experience with underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drainage)
  • Strong understanding of earthwork, grading, trench safety, and utility installation sequencing
  • Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings, plans and specifications
  • Experience developing and managing three-week look-ahead schedules
  • Strong leadership and communication skills


Requirements:

  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must participate in pre-employment and random drug screening program.
