Job description

Job Title: SAP EAM Functional Consultant
Engagement Type: Contract | Contract to hire
Location: Houston, TX
Position: (Must be willing to work 4 days a week onsite in downtown, Houston)

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced SAP EAM Functional Consultant to lead and support enterprise-wide SAP Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) initiatives. This role will be responsible for end-to-end functional design, configuration, and implementation of SAP EAM solutions, with a strong focus on Plant Maintenance (PM/SM) and Project Systems (PS). The consultant will act as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders, bridging business requirements with SAP best practices and emerging technologies.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide hands-on functional design, configuration, and implementation expertise in SAP Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), including PM/SM and PS modules.
  • Lead and support full lifecycle SAP EAM implementations, encompassing:
    • Business requirements gathering
    • Business workshops and gap analysis
    • Blueprinting and solution design
    • System configuration and customization
    • Testing (unit, integration, UAT)
    • Cutover planning, data migration, and go-live
    • End-user training and post go-live support
  • Assess current-state business processes, identify gaps and improvement opportunities, and define future-state EAM solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • Translate detailed business requirements into comprehensive functional and system design documents, ensuring accurate and efficient SAP configuration.
  • Capture business capability requirements, functional requirements, and service-level expectations, and develop SAP EAM solutions aligned to a business-IT roadmap supporting long-term strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with EAM architects and leadership to identify opportunities for emerging technologies and advise stakeholders on the impact of new technologies on existing systems and processes.
  • Ensure business and functional requirements are fully traceable and maintained throughout the development and configuration lifecycle.
  • Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders, vendors, project management, and technical teams to resolve issues, clarify requirements, and manage solution changes.
  • Guide and validate complex fit/gap analyses, ensuring deviations from standard SAP functionality are well-justified, value-driven, and aligned with business needs.
  • Manage engagement risk and economics, including planning, budgeting, deliverable definition, and stakeholder buy-in for proposed solutions.
  • Provide consulting services for both new SAP EAM implementations and existing SAP support/enhancement projects.
  • Deliver ad-hoc user training, knowledge transfer, and functional support as required.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and act as a subject matter expert and mentor to junior team members when needed.
 
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience designing, configuring, testing, implementing, and supporting Enterprise Asset Management solutions, preferably SAP EAM.
  • Proven experience with at least two (2) full-cycle SAP implementations (greenfield and/or brownfield).
  • Experience integrating newly acquired or merged entities into existing SAP platforms.
  • Strong understanding of modern SAP implementation methodologies and technology patterns.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA EAM.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decision-making and drive consensus across business and IT teams.
