Altus specializes in delivering comprehensive engineering, prototyping, testing, and production capabilities, including design, fabrication, assembly, and compliance support to our Government customers. The Sheet Metal Fabricator will be responsible for performing non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity on project articles, components, and support structures and equipment.
The Sheet Metal Technician (Journeyman) performs complex, non-routine sheet-metal fabrication, modification, and installation in support of experimental and operational NAVAIR programs. This role requires independent judgment, advanced fabrication skills, and the ability to lead or mentor junior technicians while meeting cost, schedule, and technical requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform complex sheet-metal fabrication for unique, one-of-a-kind equipment, systems, and structures
  • Independently plan and execute work from blueprints, drawings, and technical data
  • Proficiently operate shop machinery including CNC press brakes, shears, laser or waterjet cutters and teach junior staff to do the same
  • Lead fabrication efforts on assigned projects and provide technical guidance to junior staff
  • Perform inspections and acceptance testing to ensure compliance with engineering requirements
  • Develop and implement fabrication modifications while ensuring operational safety
  • Support maintenance, repair, and upgrades of specialized WOLF systems and equipment
  • Coordinate with engineers, program staff, and management to meet project objectives
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support mission requirements

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience at the journeyman level in sheet-metal fabrication
  • Active U.S. DoD SECRET Security Clearance (Must have interim clearance before start date)
  • Must possess a valid Maryland Driver's License
  • Experience using hand tools and basic measuring instruments
  • Ability to interpret basic engineering drawings and instructions
  • Willingness to learn advanced fabrication techniques and shop equipment
  • Ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, and supervisors

Work Conditions:
Conditions will vary. Capable of working outdoors and occasionally from elevated work platforms with a fall protection harness and in temperatures ranging from 0-120. The position will include: 45% standing, 20% bending, 15% reaching, 5% sitting, 5% walking, and 10% lifting. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Overtime is a requirement of this position.
