Reports to: Decision Support Manager
Location: SE Portland
Compensation: $33.17 - $34.62 per hour
AGENCY OVERVIEW:
Through the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, Catholic Charities of Oregon achieves lasting solutions to poverty and injustice by partnering with clients to meet their economic and educational goals, and to support their physical and social well-being. Catholic Charities is the official domestic relief agency of the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Financial Analyst is responsible for assisting with budgets, forecasts and financial reporting, and supports the Decision Support Manager by identifying trends and recommending actions. The position will work closely with the Decision Support as well as Accounting and Program Managers and is a strong, contributing member of the organization.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist Decision Support Manager in managing the annual budget process, program-specific budgets, scenarios and quarterly forecasts.
  • Assist Decision Support Manager in reviewing management's budget proposals for completeness, accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Serve as secondary administrator of the Prophix program including creating reports, allocations, and set-up of users and budget modules.
  • Assist Decision Support Manager in creating formal budget to actual reports to support Chief Financial Officer's (CFO) communication to executives and Board of Directors.
  • Provide analysis to Finance Director's comparison of monthly costs vs budget, researching and explaining variances that occur in monthly financials.
  • Assist in preparing budget revisions to support mid-year forecasts, multi-year plans, and "what if" scenarios as requested.
  • Provide creative alternatives and recommendations to reduce costs and improve financial performance.
  • Identify trends, advise and recommend actions to Decision Support Manager based on sound analysis.
  • Participate in trainings and coordination meetings as requested.
  • Adherence to Catholic Charities policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or equivalent lived and or worked experience required
  • Minimum of 2 years of financial planning and analysis experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of 501(c)(3) non-profit organization accounting requirements strongly preferred.
  • Ability to effectively work with standard office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft Teams and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
  • Commitment to Catholic Charities mission to work in partnership with vulnerable populations to achieve lasting solutions to poverty and injustice.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize work, be proactive, take initiative, follow through, and simultaneously manage multiple priorities to ensure goals are met in a timely manner. High attention to detail required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities.
  • Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well in team setting, as well as independently; be flexible and adapt well to different dynamics in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which could include some evenings and weekends.
  • Travel between sites in Portland required. Must have driver's license, access to vehicle and ability to obtain automobile insurance at levels required by agency.
