Overview

Lunar Outpost is dedicated to creating a permanent presence in space, while also driving positive impacts here on Earth. Currently, we are seeking a Senior Staff Mechanical Analyst to contribute to our mission in a dynamic startup environment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop high-quality analytical models of vehicles/mobility platforms.
  • Perform mechanical analysis (loads, stress, fatigue/fracture, dynamics, vibration, etc.) in quick‑turn, rapid development environment.
  • Interact with mechanical engineering design team to rapidly iterate and improve designs as informed by analysis.
  • Interact with project management and company leadership to determine timelines, schedule tasks, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Contribute to standardization of practices and procedures within the mechanical analysis team.
  • Write technical reports detailing analysis processes, results, and recommendations.
  • Allocate team resources and delegate analysis tasks to team members, supporting multiple projects and analysis efforts.
  • Oversee work performed to ensure high‑quality work products.
  • Understand analysis requirements and ensure analysis is performed in compliance with applicable Lunar Outpost and NASA standards.
  • Generate applicable loading profiles to be communicated to vendors and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present materials for Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Failure Review Boards (FRB), and Critical Design Reviews (CDR).
  • Collaborate with NASA Insight members in recurring working group sessions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of applicable experience performing mechanical analysis on spaceflight systems.
  • Experience leading analysis teams.
  • Expertise in Finite Element Modeling software.
  • Proficiency in interpreting various loading profiles and test data.
  • Familiarity with dynamic/kinematic analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with related NASA and government specifications and standards.
  • Familiarity with fatigue and fracture standards, considerations, classifications, and analysis methods.
  • Self‑motivated, focused, and driven to meet critical deadlines.
  • Excellent organization and time‑management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • U.S. Person.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience performing mechanical analysis in automotive environment.
  • Expertise in ANSYS.
  • Proficiency in FEMAP.
  • Proficiency in NASGRO.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB.
  • Proficiency in LS-DYNA.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
  • Familiarity with analysis of composites.
Conditions of Employment

Any offer of employment for this position is conditional upon Lunar Outpost receiving the LTVS SubCLIN 1C Award from NASA. If the contract is not awarded to Lunar Outpost, this offer will be considered null and void without further obligation to Lunar Outpost.
