DescriptionThe Division of Advancement and Alumni Engagement utilizes resources, technology, and business for the purpose of constituent engagement, donor research and solicitation, and stewardship throughout Emory University and Health Systems. Our mission is to inspire and steward meaningful, lasting relationships that elevate engagement and giving to fulfill Emory's mission to serve humanity. We are currently seeking a Managing Director of Donor Experience Academy.
The Donor Experience Academy is an onboarding, training and development program for individuals who are seeking a career in major gift fundraising at Emory University. Donor Experience Officers (DXOs) serve as frontline development officers within a structured talent development pipeline. As they matriculate through the program and achieve established competency and curriculum benchmarks, they will be eligible for consideration in vacant school/unit development officer roles across Advancement and Alumni Engagement. The program will consist of concurrent overlapping modules that will provide intensive exposure to all areas of the division while participants actively acquire and hone the skills to be a successful Donor Experience Officer (DXO). This position leads the Donor Experience Academy and will report to the Assistant Vice President of Advancement - Academic Advancement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops and implements strategies for identifying, cultivating, and successfully soliciting individuals to support educational and research programs for the University.
- Leads a team of front-line gift officers (Donor Experience Officers) (DXOs) primarily focused on soliciting gifts of $1,000 - $25K from alumni and constituents.
- Partners with leadership and consultants to develop and lead the DXA, coordinating a structured, immersive onboarding and training program introducing DXOs to all areas of Advancement and Alumni Engagement.
- Partners with division leaders to create curriculum, facilitating learning and professional development through experiential and classroom programing.
- Function as an integral part of a team, which designs and implements successful fundraising programs that include annual giving, planned giving, and major gifts to maximize private gift support.
- Develops Donor Experience Academy (DXA) strategic planning and goal setting.
- Coaches/mentors DXOs in the identification and solicitation of prospects; determines assessment and cultivation visits to prospects.
- Manages a limited portfolio of prospects through an active schedule of solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship calls/visits to donors and new prospects in support of strategic priorities.
- Builds relationships among prospective donors, alumni, and volunteers to support programs and priorities.
- Engages central advancement offices to ensure that potential gift prospects are properly qualified, cultivated, and stewarded.
- Ensures the maintenance of information on selected donors and prospects including contact reports in CRM system.
- Communicates in ways that are donor-centric, while furthering the mission of Emory.
- Travels to meet with donors as needed.
- Manages the operations of the department/program and budgets.
- Performs related responsibilities as required.
ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:
In addition to the duties outlined above, the Managing Director may be required to:
- Meet division metrics for visit preparation, qualification, contact reports, visits, referrals, and accurate coding using the CRM system.
- Represent the department, school/unit, division, or University.
- This position requires coming in person two days a week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor's degree and six years of experience in higher education, development, fundraising, healthcare, or equivalent experience in a non-profit institution with a minimum of one year managing staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful candidates will possess experience as lead solicitor, primarily closing gifts between ($1,000 - $100,000) from gift prospects.
- Prior experience working with comprehensive campaigns, alumni engagement, or a university setting.
- Experience leading and developing a team's skills through effective feedback and coaching, motivating and empowering colleagues while being institutionally minded, strategic, and impactful.
- Experience working with various technologies including advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, database and project management software, and CRM systems.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving skills with attention to detail, the ability to work with ambiguity, navigate a complex work environment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to achieve goals with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as effective presentation skills.
- Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.
- Possess a high level of professionalism and commitment to confidentiality with sound judgment and discretion.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
