What we need

We are looking for an Advanced Robotics Test Engineer, Mechatronics to join our Robotics Test Engineering team within our Hardware Engineering organization. Your job will be to execute system-level and subsystem testing for Symbotic’s mobile robot platforms, with equal focus on mechanical durability, sensor validation, controls behavior, and software performance. This role is critical to ensuring our robotic systems meet reliability, functionality, and readiness standards throughout development and sustainment.

What we do

The Robotics Test Engineering team is part of our Hardware Engineering organization, which is responsible for designing, validating, and delivering the robotic systems that power Symbotic’s warehouse automation platform. This team provides design verification, durability testing, subsystem validation, and root cause analysis across mobile robot platforms to ensure products perform reliably in real-world environments. Robotics Test Engineering works closely with BOT Hardware, Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, and Manufacturing teams to accelerate product maturity and reduce field risk.

What you’ll do

  • Execute and continuously improve test plans for system-level and subsystem Design Verification Testing (DVT), supporting planning, execution, reporting, and engineering feedback loops.

  • Perform mechanical durability, life-cycle, and fatigue testing of robot components and assemblies to validate long-term performance.

  • Conduct physical teardowns, inspections, and failure analysis of mechanical parts and integrated robotic systems to identify root causes and corrective actions.

  • Design, build, and maintain mechanical test rigs, fixtures, and tooling to support sustainment and validation programs.

  • Validate sensor, controls, and software behavior at the robot system level using Python-based automation, scripting, and data acquisition tools.

  • Maintain clear test documentation, summarize findings, and communicate actionable recommendations to cross-functional engineering stakeholders.

  • Support ongoing sustainment efforts for released products and collaborate closely with BOT Hardware teams to improve future designs.

What you’ll need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics Engineering, Mechanical. Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or related technical discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in robotics testing, mechatronics, validation engineering, or a closely related engineering field.

  • Hands-on experience with mechanical durability testing, life-cycle. validation, fatigue analysis, and failure investigation methods.

  • Knowledge of quality and manufacturing metrology, GD&T, and structured verification & validation (V&V) test development.

  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or CATIA for design review, fixture development, and mechanical support work.

  • Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, data logging, and test workflow efficiency.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills with the ability to translate test findings into clear engineering actions.

Our environment

  • Fully onsite, 5 days per week, in a laboratory and warehouse environment.

  • Less than 10% travel may be required for supplier visits or support at other locations.
