Human Resources Generalist Recreation and Physical Education

As the Human Resources Generalist, Recreation and Physical Education, you'll be a vital part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team that supports students, staff, and campus partners while fostering an inclusive and engaged workplace.

Administer HR processes for full-time and part-time employees, including onboarding, offboarding, compensation, benefits, performance management, and engagement.

Advise leadership on pay practices, position classification, performance appraisal, employee relations, and training and development.

Develop and implement inclusive recruiting and hiring strategies.

Manage hiring processes for foreign national, undergraduate, and graduate student employees in collaboration with Visa Services.

Support salary planning and staffing strategies.

Recommend and implement strategies to enhance compensation structures, promotion pathways, retention, and performance review processes.

Oversee job postings, offer letters, welcome communications, and onboarding processes.

Audit biweekly timecard submissions and oversee work-study payroll processes.

Prepare and advise on supplemental pay requests, pay exceptions, stop payments, and reissues.

Coordinate departmental staff meetings, retreats, in-service trainings, and professional development initiatives.

Monitor and communicate HR policies, regulations, and best practices.

Ensure compliance with labor laws and institutional policies.

Provide training and policy updates to staff and supervisors.

Demonstrate excellence in conflict resolution, public speaking, and relationship building.

Lead engagement committee initiatives.

Maintain strong partnerships with Athletics HR, University HR, and other campus offices.

Required Qualifications at this LevelEducation/Training

Work requires organizational, analytical and communication skills generally acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires two years of business, administrative and/or supervisory experience with exposure to supervisory or human resource policies and practices related to employee relations.

A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for 2 years of experience.

Anticipated Pay Range:

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $70,000.00 to USD $78,000.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
