Lyndon Institute is a comprehensive, independent high school providing thoughtful and rigorous preparation for students of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and beyond to reach their intellectual, creative, and physical potential.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Dean of Students and working collaboratively with various Department Heads, the Associate Dean of Students (ADOS) shares responsibility for ensuring a positive school culture that is consistent with the mission and values of Lyndon Institute. The Associate Dean of Students assists in the Campus Life Office with issues related to student attendance and behavior, climate and culture development in terms of student life and the way students and adults interact at LI, and developing standards and expectations around the Core Values of the school.
Duties, Responsibilities and Specific Requirements:
  • Be a consistent, positive presence in the lives of LI students.
  • Actively promote a positive student culture of engagement through policy and personal interactions.
  • Develop and implement proactive strategies to support overall student well-being, consistent with the mission and values of LI.
  • Provide logistical support for some all-school events.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Students in the annual revision and publication of the Student Handbook.
  • Participate in all Campus Life Department meetings and attend EST meetings.
  • Collaborating with the Dean of Academics and Dean of Students to support teachers with classroom support, professional development, and partnering with mentorship programs around classroom management.
  • Facilitating core value development in the Advisory Program. Assisting the Dean of Students in working with our community to define our culture currently and establishing goals for our culture and core values.
  • Being a support for student organizations (Student Government, Honors Societies, Clubs, etc).
  • Helping to cultivate and organize a "Culture Committee" that would gather more of a variety of stakeholders around the table. Work with this group to implement "temperature surveys" of community members.
  • Organizing the Core Value talks at Assembly. Once or twice a month this position could speak and it would work with faculty and staff to also bring them to the stage.
  • Assisting Dean of Students in dealing with student behavioral and attendance issues during the school day. Communicating with parents, teachers, coaches, and other stakeholders in the results of the student intervention.
  • Maintains accurate records of student discipline and attendance.
  • Facilitating HHB Investigations, and sending findings and disciplinary recommendations to the Dean of Students.
  • Assisting the Dean of Students with being a visible presence in the hallways, the parking lots, and the greater campus of Lyndon Institute during classes, between classes, and before and after school whenever possible.
  • Administrator on Duty responsibilities for some school sponsored events and the dorms in the evening and on weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements:
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree or relative work experience in a similar field that demonstrates success in working with a range of students and colleagues, as well as successful experience teaching, advising, or counseling high school students.
  • Proven success working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community leaders.
  • Demonstrates patience, a sense of humor, and the ability to see the best in others.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Understands the importance of discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks by volume, urgency, etc.
  • Strong work ethic and high level of integrity.
  • High energy, flexibility, and enthusiasm about working in an academic atmosphere.
