Job Description
The Dorus and Pitnick labs invite applications for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to join a dynamic and interdisciplinary research program focused on Drosophila reproduction and the molecular female determinants of sperm function and fertility. The position is supported by an NIH award in collaboration with Dr. Mariana Wolfner at Cornell University.
After mating, sperm participate in diverse interactions with the female reproductive tract that contribute to fertility. The molecular basis of these interactions is not well understood. The successful candidate will lead an integrative research program that aims to characterize female-derived proteins that participate in spatiotemporally regulated interactions with sperm and contribute to sperm motility, viability, and fertilization competency. This research will provide unique training and expertise in genetics and genomics, metabolomics, and male and female reproductive biology. This position also offers exceptional opportunities for scientific independence, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and preparation for a career in academia or advanced research.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in reproductive biology, genetics, genomics, metabolomics/proteomics, evolution or a related field.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated research experience and productivity in fields related to reproduction or genetics.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Basic computational or bioinformatic skills and experience managing large-scale data.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in reproductive biology.
  • Expertise in proteomics and/or metabolomics.
  • Experience studying Drosophila or another tractable genetic model organism.
  • Experience with high-throughput multi-omics datasets and integrated analysis.
  • Strong publication record and evidence of creativity and independence.
  • Interest in mentoring and contributing to collaborative research culture.

Responsibilities
  • Perform research tasks as outlined by project needs and the principal investigator. This primarily includes designing, performing, and analyzing experiments.
  • Disseminate findings through publications, conferences, and seminar presentations.
  • Co-mentor graduate students and undergraduate researchers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
