You will join the Horizon engineering team focused on delivering world-class display quality and performance for customers across diverse virtual desktop environments. As a Member of Technical Staff - Display Driver Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in Windows driver development, Direct3D graphics programming, and VDI architecture to lead development, optimization, and debugging of the Horizon Agent display infrastructure and graphics subsystems. Your responsibilities span the full display stack: mastering the Indirect Display Driver (IDD) architecture and display topology management, debugging and resolving critical issues in the VNC server infrastructure, optimizing GPU utilization and rendering pipelines, and collaborating cross-functionally to solve high-impact display and graphics problems.

You will be responsible for:

  • Build a deep understanding of Horizon Agent display architecture, including the hznvidd Indirect Display Driver (IDD), VNC server infrastructure, and Windows display configuration systems.
  • Own the full lifecycle of display driver features from design through implementation, testing, and release. Debug and resolve race conditions, resource leaks, and stability issues in Direct3D 11/12 GPU initialization, swapchain management, and display state machines.
  • Implement and optimize monitor topology configuration, EDID handling, hot-plugging scenarios, and adapter management. Work across kernel/user-space boundaries and handle complex Windows display configuration (SetDisplayConfig, CCD) scenarios.
  • Identify and root-cause display performance bottlenecks in the VNC server, topology management, and graphics pipeline. Optimize rendering latency, memory usage, and CPU/GPU utilization across diverse hardware configurations.
  • Maintain and evolve the VNC protocol integration with Horizon. Debug and optimize VNC connection lifecycle, display change event propagation, and backend failure recovery.
  • Master the SCons build system and ensure reliable driver compilation, signing, and deployment across Windows versions. Build and maintain comprehensive test coverage for display scenarios including multi-monitor setups, GPU capabilities, codec support, and hot-plug events.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers in Windows driver development, providing technical guidance and thorough code reviews.
  • Collaborate effectively with platform, performance, VNC, and product teams to deliver integrated display solutions. Contribute to architectural discussions and help resolve cross-team technical dependencies.
  • Drive investigation and resolution of critical customer-facing display issues with root-cause analysis and preventive improvements.
  • Publish internal technical documentation, architecture guides, and post-mortem analyses for complex issues.
  • Implement and improve processes around DevOps, Agile, and CI/CD.

What will you bring to Omnissa?

  • Deep expertise in C++ systems programming, particularly in driver development and low-level Windows APIs.
  • Proven experience architecting, designing, and debugging Direct3D 11/12 applications or GPU-related systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows internals including display configuration APIs (SetDisplayConfig, CCD), driver architecture, and kernel/user-space interaction.
  • Hands-on proficiency in debugging tools such as WinDbg, Windows Performance Analyzer, and GPU profilers.
  • Experience with performance profiling, optimization, and latency analysis in real-time graphics systems.
  • Proven ability to root-cause and resolve complex concurrency issues, race conditions, and resource management problems.
  • Experience with VDI/remote desktop technologies, VNC protocol, or virtualization solutions is highly desired.
  • Familiarity with build systems (SCons or similar) and driver signing/certification processes.
  • Experience with test automation, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Track record of technical writing, architecture documentation, or presenting on complex systems topics.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; proven ability to mentor junior engineers.
  • Familiarity with Agile, DevOps practices, and version control systems (Git).

Compensation: The typical base salary for this role is betweenUSD $150,825- $225,000per year and it may be eligible for participation in a corporate bonus program. Actual compensation offer may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, or other relevant factors.
