Summary

The Senior Manager, Driver Operations is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for DSV Road Transport's driver operations, with accountability for driver workforce performance, leadership effectiveness, safety, service delivery, customer relationships, and operational execution. This role leads and develops Driver Operations Managers and other operational leaders while ensuring consistent execution across assigned operations and customer accounts.

The Senior Manager serves as a key liaison between DSV and its customers, building strong relationships, maintaining proactive communication, understanding evolving business needs, and ensuring operational performance aligns with customer expectations and contractual commitments. This position drives continuous improvement, workforce planning, operational consistency, and service excellence while partnering across the organization to support safe, compliant, efficient, and scalable transportation operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for driver operations across assigned locations, customer accounts, or business segments, ensuring alignment with company objectives, customer expectations, and operational priorities.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Driver Operations Managers, supervisors, and other operational leaders, establishing clear expectations and accountability for safety, service, driver performance, engagement, and operational results.
  • Establish consistent operating standards, leadership practices, and performance expectations across driver operations while ensuring leaders have the resources and support necessary to execute effectively.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, serving as a senior operational point of contact for performance, service delivery, workforce needs, operational challenges, and strategic initiatives.
  • Maintain regular and proactive communication with customers regarding operational performance, service trends, staffing, business needs, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead customer performance reviews and operational discussions, including preparation and presentation of key performance indicators, service metrics, staffing updates, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with customers to understand current and future transportation needs and translate those requirements into operational, staffing, and workforce strategies.
  • Ensure customer concerns and service issues are addressed promptly, with appropriate communication, root-cause analysis, corrective action, and follow-through.
  • Monitor operational performance, including driver utilization, productivity, service levels, safety performance, staffing, cost efficiency, and other key business metrics, identifying trends and implementing action plans as needed.
  • Provide oversight and direction for driver workforce planning, including staffing levels, recruiting needs, retention strategies, scheduling requirements, and anticipated business growth or changes in customer demand.
  • Drive driver engagement and retention strategies by ensuring leaders maintain a positive, accountable, and performance-focused work environment.
  • Partner with Safety, Dispatch, Operations, Maintenance, Recruiting, Human Resources, Payroll, Planning, Finance, and other cross-functional teams to resolve operational challenges and support business objectives.
  • Ensure driver operations comply with Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Hours of Service (HOS), Electronic Logging Device (ELD), and other applicable regulatory and company requirements.
  • Partner with Safety and operational leadership to identify compliance trends, address risks, and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
  • Lead and support operational launches, customer implementations, business expansions, technology deployments, process changes, and other strategic initiatives impacting driver operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational processes, leadership effectiveness, service quality, driver productivity, customer satisfaction, and cost efficiency.
  • Develop and present operational reports, business reviews, staffing analyses, performance trends, and recommendations to senior leadership and customers.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, resource planning, and operational decision-making related to driver operations and assigned customer accounts.
  • Serve as an escalation point for significant driver, leadership, customer, service, and operational matters, ensuring timely resolution and appropriate stakeholder communication.
  • Participate in strategic planning and business development discussions related to transportation capabilities, customer growth, operational scalability, and workforce requirements.
  • Perform other duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in transportation, logistics, fleet, dedicated operations, or driver management required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience within transportation or logistics operations required, including experience leading managers or other operational leaders.
  • Demonstrated experience managing customer relationships and communicating with customer leadership regarding operational performance, service expectations, and business needs required.
  • Experience supporting truckload (TL), less-than-truckload (LTL), dedicated transportation, or similar transportation operations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Hours of Service (HOS), Electronic Logging Device (ELD), and other applicable transportation regulations.
  • Experience with workforce planning, driver recruiting and retention, performance management, operational analytics, and continuous improvement required.
  • Experience leading operations across multiple locations, customer accounts, or complex transportation environments preferred.
  • Experience managing operational budgets, forecasting, or financial performance preferred.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) preferred.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout office, warehouse, terminal, and transportation yard environments. The role may require walking on uneven surfaces, navigating active yard and dock areas, bending, reaching, and climbing into and out of commercial vehicles or equipment for operational observations, inspections, or ride-alongs. The employee may be required to remain standing or walking for extended periods during site visits and operational activities and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must have the ability to safely navigate areas with moving vehicles and equipment and communicate effectively in both office and operational environments.

Work Environment

This position operates across a combination of office, warehouse, terminal, transportation yard, commercial vehicle, and customer environments. The role may require regular presence in active operational areas with exposure to moving vehicles and equipment, elevated noise levels, dust, fumes, and varying indoor and outdoor temperatures and weather conditions. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required based on the work location or activity.

The position requires travel to DSV facilities, customer locations, and other operational sites as business needs dictate. The work environment is fast-paced and may involve changing operational priorities, time-sensitive customer needs, and unexpected service or staffing issues. Availability outside standard business hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional on-call support, may be required based on operational and customer needs.

For this position, the expected base pay range is $110K - $130K Annuel. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
