Job description

About the Role

Independent Waste is a tech-enabled C&D roll-off hauler operating across five markets — Birmingham, Nashville, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Huntsville. Our drivers are the engine of everything we do, and keeping that engine healthy is the job.

The Driver Operations Coordinator is a proactive, ownership-driven role sitting at our Birmingham headquarters and supporting all five markets. You're not waiting for problems to surface — you're reading the signals early. You know which drivers are trending the wrong direction before it becomes a gap on the board, and you're already sourcing the next hire before the seat goes empty.

This role reports to Operations Leadership and works closely with our Driver CSR team and market managers daily.

ResponsibilitiesDriver Recruitment
  • Maintain an active pipeline across all five markets
  • Post listings, manage inbound applications, and screen candidates
  • Coordinate interviews with market managers and ops leadership
  • Anticipate staffing needs before gaps open — not after
Onboarding & Screening
  • Coordinate MVR, background, and drug screening
  • Issue and track onboarding agreements and paperwork
  • Ensure full credentialing before a driver's first day
  • Set up driver profiles in ops and pay systems
Driver Records
  • Maintain current COIs, driver's licenses, and testing documentation
  • Track all renewal dates and issue advance reminders
  • Organize and audit driver qualification (DQ) files
  • Flag compliance gaps before they become violations
Samsara Metrics & Reporting
  • Pull and distribute weekly safety and performance reports
  • Track start/end time trends and haul performance by driver
  • Identify drivers showing early warning signs and flag them to leadership
  • Report on workforce health across all five markets
Driver Pay
  • Verify weekly settlement outputs against completed order data
  • Confirm accuracy before approving for processing
  • Coordinate corrections with market managers as needed
  • Maintain pay records across all markets
Fleet & Maintenance
  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedule for all trucks
  • Track registrations, inspections, and renewal deadlines
  • Log and categorize fleet repair and expense records
  • Coordinate with vendors and market managers on repairs
What We're Looking For
  • 2+ years in operations, logistics, or fleet coordination — trucking, construction, or field services background is a strong plus
  • A self-starter who builds their own rhythm — you don't wait to be told what needs attention, you find it
  • Exceptionally organized with a track record of managing multiple deadlines across multiple people or locations
  • Comfortable working across systems — spreadsheets, TMS platforms, HR and onboarding tools, telematics reporting
  • Clear, direct communicator — with drivers, with managers, and with leadership
  • High ownership mentality — if something is falling through the cracks, you catch it and fix it without being asked
  • DOT driver qualification file knowledge is a plus, but not required — we'll train the right person
