Job description

On-Demand Transit Driver

SOUTHLAND Transportation is currently seeking career-oriented On-Demand Transit Drivers to join our team! Transit Drivers are responsible for safely transporting passengers daily and must be committed to providing superior service while demonstrating strong communication skills, patience, maturity, and initiative.

This service operates seven days a week. Openings are for the PM shift and some weekends.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Transport passengers safely and according to route and time schedules
  • Manage the transit operator tracking software via the provided tablet
  • Maintain radio contact and use proper radio protocol
  • safely operate the transit vehicle in all weather conditions and be prepared for all road conditions
  • Provide information and assist passengers in a courteous manner
  • Manage passenger behavior by quickly and effectively solving problems
  • Report vehicle maintenance issues, passenger emergencies, and schedule concerns
  • Conduct pre-and-post trip checks of the assigned vehicle
  • Drop off or pick up the bus when requested by Operations or Maintenance
  • Complete various forms of paperwork, as required

Requirements

  • Minimum Class 4 driver’s license
  • Training to upgrade to a Class 2S license provided
  • Clean driver's abstract
  • Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check
  • Strong knowledge of Town of Okotoks roadways
  • Physical ability to push/pull wheelchairs up and down a ramp and open/close sliding door
  • Map reading ability
  • Organized, punctual, and reliable
  • Calm, upbeat, and helpful manner
  • Excellent driving skills and habits
