Job description

Overview

Nakupuna Consulting is looking for a Driver/ Courier to be responsible for the pickup and delivery of United States Postal Service mail and parcels designated for Mark Center screening facility. Following prescribed guidelines, the Driver/Courier will facilitate the accountability and timely delivery of mail and parcels for the government customer.

Responsibilities

The following reflects management's definition of essential functions for this job, but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign additional duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons.

  • Operate 16' Class 6 truck in high traffic areas in the National Capitol Region. Complete initial and annual safe driver training.
  • Obey all traffic laws and operate vehicle in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Perform daily maintenance check on assigned vehicle and document findings. Notify supervisor of any maintenance needs.
  • Complete daily vehicle logs (mileage, start/stop times, destinations) for review and endorsement by the Operations & Training Manager.
  • Adhere to prescribed driving routes. Notify supervisor of any deviation due to traffic or other delays.
  • Pick-up and deliver large volumes of mail and parcels (including Certified, Priority, and Registered mail) from the United States Postal Service office location in Washington, D.C. to the Mark Center in Northern Virginia. Follow strict pick-up and delivery times.
  • Visually inspect mail and parcels for suspicious characteristics and appropriately react to suspected hazardous items.
  • Move heavy All-Purpose Carts in a dock environment and load/unload on assigned truck.
  • Maintain 100% accountability of mail and parcels using a handheld scanning device and tracking software. Synchronize scanning devices with the government database.
  • Assist security personnel and mail screening personnel with x-ray operations.
  • Receive mail and parcels from various couriers at the Mark Center dock wearing prescribed PPE.
  • Assist with commercial carrier parcel receiving as needed.
  • Assist mail screening personnel with housekeeping duties as needed (sweeping, mopping, trash removal, etc.).
  • Assist mail screening personnel with morning mail release duties, as needed.
  • Transport the delivery truck to and from scheduled maintenance appointments, which may require working beyond normal scheduled hours.
  • Utilize appropriate customer relations skills when interacting with USPS and government personnel.
Qualifications

Skills/Qualifications: Possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record; previous professional driving experience is preferred; attention to detail and accuracy; solid judgment and decision-making ability; excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to read maps and follow GPS; basic computer knowledge.

Education and Experience: Minimum of a high school diploma, or equivalent, required for employment; one (1) year minimum driving medium-duty trucks; military, CBRNE, and physical security experience is highly desirable.

Physical requirements: While performing the duties of this position, the employee must, at a minimum, be able to meet the following physical requirements.

  • Undergo an OSHA Respirator Medical Clearance examination and be determined physically capable of completing job requirements.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including OSHA Level C protective ensembles (compliant with 29 CFR 1910.132) for up to eight hours per day. Working conditions require wearing Level C PPE and respiratory protection in hot and humid conditions (in excess of 78 degrees).
  • Ability to wear a five-pound Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) (compliant with 29 CFR 1910.134), and a tight-fitting facepiece negative pressure respirator (with P100 particulate filters) for extended periods of time while conducting daily operations without risk of respiratory distress due to a prior medical condition. This position does not allow employees to have any facial hair that comes between the sealing surface of the tight-fitting facepiece and the face [in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.134(g)(1)(i)(A)] - no exceptions. This will require employees to completely shave facial hair that interferes with tight-fitting respiratory protection.
  • Ability to frequently use stairs without assistance as a regular part of daily duties.
  • Ability to work in close proximity to x-ray machines.
  • Ability to lift and carry 45 pounds for up to 50 yards while wearing PPE; ability to team-lift up to 100 pounds while wearing PPE.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, and sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to stretch and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to use hands to handle or feel, and to perform repetitive motions with the hands, wrists, and fingers.
  • Ability to talk/hear and engage in and follow audible communications in emergency situations.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust
  • Ability to work with common cleaning chemicals, such as bleach, isopropyl alcohol, and glass cleaner.  

Clearance Requirements: This position requires an active Secret security clearance. Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.

Other Requirements: Candidate must be able to pass a background check, drug screening, driving background check and maintain a clean driving record.

Work Location: Mark Center, Alexandria, VA.

DoD Installation Access: This position requires access to secure building and parking areas. Candidate must be able to qualify for and obtain access.

This federal government project is subject to the Service Contract Act (SCA). The hourly rate for this position is determined by the location where work is performed. In addition to hourly pay, positions subject to SCA are entitled to a health and welfare (H&W) payment, which may be adjusted based employee selection of company benefits in lieu of H&W.   

The Nakupuna Companies use a market-based compensation strategy to ensure that our employees are compensated within applicable market rates commensurate with multiple factors, including but not limited to the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability, organizational requirements, and position location. The projected compensation rate for this position is $25.07 per hour. The hourly rate displayed represents the typical rate for this position and is just one component of Nakupuna Companies total compensation package for employees.
