Job description

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing interventional cardiac procedures and invasive diagnostics. This role requires expertise in managing complex cardiac conditions, including dysrhythmia interpretation, sheath removal, and stable drip management. The nurse collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, ensuring safety during pre- and post-procedure phases for a variety of cardiac interventions.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide skilled nursing care for interventional cardiac patients before, during, and after procedures such as angiograms, cardioversion, PCI, ablations, lead and pacer placements, TAVR, and Mitral Clip interventions.
  • Perform sheath removal and manage stable intravenous drips.
  • Interpret cardiac dysrhythmias and manage appropriate interventions including cardioversion and defibrillation.
  • Administer blood and blood products safely and monitor patient responses.
  • Conduct telemetric cardiac monitoring and interpretation.
  • Manage epicardial pacers and assist with procedure sedation.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
  • Float to like units as required, demonstrating flexibility in assignment.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Active Registered Nurse license with at least 2 years of experience in a cardiac or critical care setting.
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
  • Proficiency in dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
  • Experience with interventional cardiac procedures, sheath removal, and stable drip management.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience with TEE (Transesophageal Echocardiography) and procedure sedation.
  • Familiarity with Epic electronic health record system.
  • Experience in post-operative recovery for structural heart procedures.
Special Considerations:
  • Floating to similar units is required; flexibility to adapt to unit needs is essential.
  • No weekend, holiday, or on-call shifts required.
  • Travel contract eligibility requires separation of at least 3 months from previous facility unless holding an active compact license.
  • Unit does not accept first-time travelers.
Scheduling:
  • Work schedule excludes weekends and holidays; specific shifts and hours to be assigned based on unit needs.
