Job description


Responsible for safely and efficiently maintaining, repairing, and installing all machinery in the plant. Understands and aligns business operations and the department(s) as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee is frequently required to lift or carry 10 to 25 pounds and occasionally required to lift or carry 26 to 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Personal Protective Equipment (hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, hairnet) is required. Other PPE may be required for specific tasks


Required Skills

  • Performs mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on plant equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and inspections on plant equipment.
  • Performs major and minor equipment rebuilds as needed.
  • Uses machine shop equipment (mill, lathe, drill press, band saw, welder) to fabricate metal parts
  • Installs electrical circuits for equipment repair or modification.
  • Assists with special projects as directed by M/E Manager or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Installs or repairs machine guards and safety equipment.
  • Maintains good housekeeping in plant maintenance areas
  • Performs maintenance to buildings and grounds as required
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to all GMP, safety, food safety, SQF, HACCP and food defense procedures (training will be provided)
  • Must be able to stand for 8 to 12 hours with short breaks
  • Must be able to safely lift 35 pounds
  • Must be able to work outside, including the roof of the building.
  • Any other reasonable request from management

Required Experience

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5-10 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Mechanical skills

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Company issued Fork Truck Operator's license
