Job description

Slitter Operator Assistant

Constantia Flexibles is in Blythewood

SUMMARY

As a part of an overall manufacturing team, learn and assist with all aspects of slitting and rewinding at the highest quality levels. Assist in other areas when needed.  Ensures quality product from slitting to packaging/inspection. Ensures compliance to Safety and GMP requirements.

Includes the following. Other duties might be assigned:

Learn how to operate slitter and the rewinder as a member of the Production Team who is  

  multi-skilled and cross-trained on all department process equipment.

Develop process trouble shooting including visual defect detection.

Read and understand work orders for current jobs and upcoming jobs including specifications.

Maintain accurate paperwork, SAP/ PDC functions for jobs.

Perform quality checks and make slitter and rewinder adjustments during start-up.

Perform quality checks and periodically throughout the run and adjust the slitter accordingly to

  ensure zero defects to the customer.

Perform daily and periodic cleaning and preventative maintenance in order to maintain

  standards throughout the manufacturing area.

Observe and make recommendations on all issues regarding safety, quality, waste, and

  production.

Monitor product quality, obtain and measure samples.

Learn all measurements and begin identifying and resolving visual defects and finish rolls that

  do not meet customer quality specifications.

All other duties appropriate to the position as assigned or required.

KNOWLEDGE:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Basic knowledge of computer software and functions, including PDC and SAP functions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Regularly required to stand; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.

Frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,   peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
