Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Miller Advanced Research and Solutions (MARS) Center is a new facility managed by Weber State University located just outside the west gate of Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah. The center collaborates with industry and government partners to establish projects that provide students the opportunity to work on advanced technologies with real world significance. The MARS Center is developing new manufacturing and inspection technologies for advanced composite structures for high temperature and harsh environments. The Center will be an innovative space to develop new ideas and capabilities while engaging with academia, industry, and the government to ensure relevant and responsive projects and proposals. Teamwork and collaboration with MARS Center personnel and supporting students and faculty will be a key function of the position.
The Machinist/Machine Operator at the Miller Advanced Research and Solutions (MARS) Center will fabricate precision components and operate CNC machines, 3D printers, and composite manufacturing equipment to support cutting-edge aerospace and defense projects. This role emphasizes hands-on technical work, student training, and collaboration with academia, industry, and government partners in a high-tech, innovation-driven environment.

Required Qualifications:
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • 2 years of related experience that may include machining, fabrication, or work with composite materials
  • Experience operating CNC machines and 3D printers

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred:
  • Technical certification or associate degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) is a plus
  • Strong understanding of mechanical tolerances, materials, and fabrication techniques
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
