Job Title: Draftsman

Location: Elkhart, IN
Department: Engineering / Operations
Reports To: VP of Sales

Position Summary

The Draftsman is responsible for creating, modifying, and maintaining detailed technical drawings and specifications for aluminum extrusion profiles, tooling, and related components. This role works closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure accurate designs that meet customer requirements and manufacturing capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings of aluminum extrusion profiles, dies, tooling, and assemblies using AutoCAD (and/or similar CAD software).
  • Interpret customer specifications, sketches, and engineering data to develop accurate technical drawings.
  • Revise drawings based on engineering changes, customer feedback, and production requirements.
  • Maintain organized records of drawings, revisions, and documentation in accordance with company standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet extrusion process capabilities.
  • Assist in die design concepts and support tooling development.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards, tolerances, and internal quality requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to design accuracy and efficiency.
  • Provide technical support to internal teams regarding drawings and specifications.
  • Manage new part setup and perform bill of materials (BOM) calculations

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in drafting, preferably in a manufacturing or extrusion environment.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (required); experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with aluminum extrusion profiles or metal fabrication preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.


Working Conditions

  • Office-based role with occasional time spent in the manufacturing facility.
  • Exposure to a production environment including noise and moving equipment (PPE required when on the floor).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
  • Occasionally required to walk through the production floor.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with ERP systems or document control systems.
  • Knowledge of extrusion die design and tooling processes.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.
