Description
Position Overview
The Drafter 2 is responsible for preparing and maintaining CAD drawings and technical documentation supporting transmission line survey and right-of-way activities.
This role will support survey field crews and office personnel by creating accurate drawings, researching existing survey and real estate records, interpreting legal property information, and preparing written descriptions for transmission-related projects.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working with survey data, property boundaries, topographic information, right-of-way records, and legal descriptions while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy, quality, and timely project completion.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
CAD Drafting & Survey Support
  • Prepare CAD drawings for transmission line projects.
  • Draft and revise:
    • Transmission line centerlines
    • Right-of-way drawings
    • Boundary surveys
    • Topographic surveys
    • Land tie surveys
  • Convert survey field data into accurate technical drawings.
  • Maintain drawing accuracy and consistency throughout project development.
  • Update drawings based on field revisions, survey findings, and project requirements.
Legal Descriptions
  • Interpret and prepare metes and bounds descriptions.
  • Prepare centerline descriptions for assigned projects.
  • Review property and survey information to ensure descriptions are complete and accurate.
  • Assist with resolving discrepancies in survey and property records.
Survey & Right-of-Way Research
  • Research existing survey records and real estate documentation.
  • Review plats, deeds, easements, right-of-way documents, and related records.
  • Contact local and state agencies to obtain right-of-way information.
  • Support project teams with property and survey research as needed.
  • Organize and maintain supporting project documentation.
Field & Office Coordination
  • Support survey field crews with drafting, research, and documentation needs.
  • Coordinate with office personnel regarding project requirements and deliverables.
  • Assist in resolving drafting or survey-related questions.
  • Maintain communication with project team members to ensure timely completion of assignments.
Project Documentation & Transmittals
  • Prepare completed project files and drawing packages for transmittal.
  • Ensure technical documentation is complete and organized prior to submission.
  • Maintain appropriate file naming, version control, and document organization.
  • Support document distribution and project closeout activities.

Required Qualifications
  • 2-5 years of professional drafting experience.
  • Experience using CAD software for engineering, survey, civil, or utility-related drafting.
  • Experience interpreting technical drawings, survey information, and property records.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and project deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with field and office teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Drafting, Design, CAD Technology, Surveying Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting transmission, utility, civil, surveying, or right-of-way projects.
  • Experience preparing metes and bounds descriptions.
  • Experience with boundary, topographic, and land survey drafting.
  • Familiarity with utility right-of-way and real estate documentation.

Technical Skills
