Location: 900 NW Richards Rd
Pay: $18.37-$28.01 per hour
Schedule: Shifts based on operational needs, Mandatory Overtime may be required

About Us

About the Aviation Department

The Kansas City Aviation Department is responsible for managing and operating Kansas City International Airport (MCI) and Kansas City Downtown Airport (Wheeler Field MKC). As an enterprise fund department of the City of Kansas City, Missouri, it is fully supported by airport-generated revenues rather than tax funding. The department focuses on delivering safe, efficient, and cost-effective airport services to airlines, passengers, visitors, and the community. Its operations include overseeing airport administration, maintenance, promotions, and overall system performance while ensuring a high standard of customer service and operational excellence.

Responsibilities
What You'll Do:
  • Patrols the buildings and grounds at the downtown airport to safeguard against AOA breaches, trespassing, property damage, and theft.
  • Assures no unauthorized persons gain access to the airfield or parked aircraft.
  • Patrols are performed on foot and in vehicles and include patrol of the runways and taxiways.
  • Assists patrols and tenants and maintains crowd control during events.
  • Prepares reports and maintains activity logs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRES
  • High school graduation AND
  • One (1) year of experience as a security officer
  • Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and physical examination as prescribed by the City
  • Ability to pass 10-year TSA Background Check
  • Must possess a valid State-Issued driver's license
  • May be required to obtain the appropriate license issued by the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, depending on the specific assignment

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
