Job Description

We are currently expanding our US sales team and are looking to add a Business Development Manager. Reporting to the Director of Open Research for the Americas, your primary responsibility is to protect and grow our Open Research/Open Science revenue in the Americas and to be an advocate for Taylor & Francis Group's expanding Open Research programs and initiatives.

We are a leader in Open Research agreement workflow and this role will be a key element in elevating T&F by hosting workflow webinar or events, getting involved in receiving feedback from our customers and Product team and ensuring our customer-focused development of ourย  Open Research sales tools.

What you'll be doing:

  • Driving Open Research Revenue through engagement with key prospects within the America's market
  • Determining customers and developing sustainable plans to satisfy their needs
  • Growing Open Research revenue by understanding the marketing and identifying new products and services; understanding different Open Research options, services and platforms and how they map to customer and business needs
  • Working with other internal groups/stakeholders to develop infrastructure, as needed
  • Building relationships with key institutions, funders, and research centers to build protect revenue with a specific focus on new business
  • Partnering with Open Research Sales Support alongside other teams to ensure workflow and reporting requirements are met; ensuring customers are satisfied with agreed infrastructure and processes
  • Teaming with our Academic Sales division on new agreements entailing Open Research element with the support of the director; providing support key renewals and new agreements working with Research Analytics Department on publication data, analysis of business model options and proposal writing
  • Growing new Open Research revenue from non-traditional academic customers, i.e. NGOs, think-tanks and research centers; creating relationships with key contacts and exploring commercial partnerships
  • Engaging with stakeholders externally to promote Taylor & Francis Group's position in the Open Research community through conferences and presentation opportunities; supporting colleagues internally with Open Research expertise across the businessย 
Qualifications

What we're looking for:

  • Significant experience working in a publishing sales environment, with an understanding of the role of business development and lead generation for long-term success
  • Considerable knowledge of the Open Science/Research space; funding organizations, the academic publishing industry, and the wider scholarly eco-system
  • Familiarity with key business models and customer needs
  • Excellent networking skills to keep internal stakeholders involved in all areas of planning, as well as building external relationships for a strong commercial pipeline
  • Ability to influence, drive for results and establish a clear agenda for their function
  • Strong ability to appropriately communicate both upstream and downstream within the organization, and externally with key customers
  • Ability to work independently and pro-actively, with awareness of when to make use of the wider infrastructure around them
  • Target driven approach and the skills to manage and deliver on sales plans and targets
  • A knowledge/understanding of the research funding landscape would also be advantageous

  • Base salary ranging from $95,000 - $105,000 + bonusย 
    • Bonus - 30% of base salary if annual OTE's are met, may exceed up to 100%
